  • The Magic of the D/A Microfiber Correction System

After reading and viewing the successful results of the new Meguiars D/A Microfiber Correction System, I finally secured two each of the new microfiber cutting and finishing pads and a small bottle of the Correction Compound and finally tackled the task of polishing my 2008 Accord.

The Accord was in dire need of a polishing and had gone nearly 10 months since it's last full correction. The scratch marks you see on my doors in the before pics are from my horizontal washing pattern, and really come out in it's full ugliness in the unforgiving early morning sun. And the car is washed and clayed in the first 4 photos, but the paint had become so scoured, it looks dirty in the photos. For the last few months, I subconsciously averted my eyes as I approached my vehicle facing the morning sun.

Anyway, without further ado, the photos. The first 4 are the before pics taken at the same time of morning as the last 4 (after) pics when the sun is at it's harshest and most revealing. The center photos of the trunk and hood were taken immediately following the the correction/polishing and prior to the sealant.

I finished the correction with D151 instead of the finishing wax and followed that with an application of NXT 2.0. And yes, the tires still need to be dressed.

The car looks great now. In the before pics, the paint looks hazy, in the afters it has a nice deep shine!

I had to break it up over 3 weekends due to Easter, Mother's Day, and the fact I have no shaded parking.

The first weekend, I washed and clayed the car. 2nd weekend, I corrected the paint. 3rd weekend, I applied the NXT. All told, I spent 16 hours, but that includes redundant washings (all 3 weekends) and clayings (twice). But if I had covered parking, I think I could have had it done in 10 hours.

              Very nice change indeed!

I've tried using a few dots of 105 along with the 300 on the tougher panels and that seems to help a bit. In that same light I used a couple of dots of 205 with the 301 and I 'think' it helped but it's all so darn shiny I can't really tell...

Yep! I knew I wasn't going to have time to wax it after the compounding, so I wanted a mild cut polish & wax AIO, and I had that bottle of D151...

Great job John. Everything looks good but I think your tires sure do need some dressing.

                        Looks great, John!

What did you use to clean the microfiber discs during the correction process? Do you have compressed air, or did you use a brush or similar?

LOL. Thanks Jesse. The tires, flaps, and B pillars all get their treatment this weekend.

Thanks Mike. And many thanks for the great advice online and at the TNOG on the best method of application for the DA Microfiber System. I used the brush to clean the pads, and that experience led me to buy a pancake compressor for the next job!

Thank you Tafner. It's nice to have glossy paint again. The neighbors think I'm obsessed because they have seen me tackle this for three straight weeks, but I'm pretty sure they have thought that about me for the last couple of years anyway!
