How to take care of black with finesse?

I am a Newbie to this forum so I am probably asking a question that may have been answered several times already. Recently I treated myself again by purchasing a 1998 Black Corvette. My favorite color. This is the 2nd Corvette I have owned and both black. I want to be smarter the 2nd time around. I am hearing polish is the way to go? What should I be using on black and is there anything out there that can fill in minor blemishes? The paint is in pretty good condition, not great, some swirl marks.

Currently I do not have a machine. I am not opposed to purchasing but I am also wondering if I can get similar results by hand if I am will to put in the effort? Thanks, Thundercat
