  • 1999 F-150 Ford pick up.

This truck belongs to a best friend of mine. His Dad was the original owner of it in 1999. My friend ended up buying it about 3-4 years ago. The front had been wrecked back in 2006 or so, but the body shop did a poor job. The paint and clear were peeling on the edges under the hood. The paint is full of sanding scratches. The worst part is this...the clear coat. The OEM paint is in better shape than what they used. I had my hands full on this job. To say the least, I was tired that day. But I did get a cold beer, a grilled steak and baked potato for my hard work. I also got three Meguiar's Clay Bar kits from them. Their local Target store had them on clearance and they bought the last three for me.

I did not try to remove every scratch on the truck. My main duty was to restore the shine in the hood and the rest of the truck. I wanted to give it some good shine and protection.

    Washed with NXT Wash
    Clay Bar (Meguiar's white)
Started with #83 on the hood, but it didn't do squat.
I went with D151 Paint Conditioning Cream instead and wow!
    Finished with NXT Tech wax.
Trim done with Meguiar's Trim Detailer. (gel and aerosol)
Tires treated with Meguiar's Endurance tire gel.

Sometimes the timing of a cold beer is critical. Looks like you got it just right. Truck looks vastly improved.

        great job!

Looks similar to the condition of the hood on my wife's truck that I am working on...

Great looking truck man. Maybe I'm just seeing things but it looks like the headlights need to be restored.

They look okay, but could maybe use a little attention.

After ten hours of working on the paint only thats not something I would do right then & there.

            The F-150 looks great sir.

              Great work!!!

Eh the headlights look fine. The headlight on these F150's aren't supposed to be completely see through, so that may be why they don't look completely clear.

I once put swirls in my paint just to see what it looked like.

              I don't always detail cars, but when I do, I prefer Meguiar's.
              Remove swirls my friends.

Thanks for all the kind words gang. LOL As Tuck mentioned, I was too tired to work on the headlights. I have hit them with D151 before, but they needed it again. Those F-150 headlights are not the clearest, even when new. My ZX2 headlights are a lot clearer than they are. LOL

Sadly, my friend called me yesterday and said his son hit a concrete/steel light pole the other day. It put a good size dent in the truck bed in front of the left tail light. Luckily, it didn't rip any paint off. I think I can get the scuffs out, but the dent is another story. LOL

                      D151 did that! Holy crow!
