thinking about switching to mirror glaze, need your opinions

ive been using meguiars OTC stuff for about 3 years (its all i ever used) i think for OTC stuff meguiars is one of the best. ive been contemplating switching over to mirror glaze. my question is, is it worth the switch? and i know there are different kinds of waxes, polishes etc. im trying to figure out what products would be better for hand application and what are best for the DA polisher. (i like to use both; one or the other depending on my mood)

There is no need to switch completely, or think of it that way. You just want to pick and choose what suits your needs.

For instance, I have not used the Ultimate Polish or Wax yet, but basing things on other products, #205 and Ultimate Compound are very DA friendly. But #205 may be a little too mild to remove much by hand. So you can see mixing and matching as needed.

#7 is pretty top of the line for a pure polish of course.

Waxes are all a bit different.

And dont forget the Detailer Line... APC, Glass Cleaner, and others are always good to have.

The new metal polishes are great, but if you were a Nxt fan, the Marine Line metal polish is similar.

And things like #135 for a spray detailer if you use a lot of UQD, or Last Touch/Final Inspection if you use a lot of QD. You can also buy QID in bulk. Or X-Press Spray Wax if you use a lot of UQW.

So just use what fits... and we are here to help sort that out of course.

If you don't use a rotary buffer for some of your detailing projects then you're not in need to switch to Professional products.

Murr listed some favorites: M07, M205, so if you feel like to give them a try order some of those.

Mirror Glaze and Detailer products come in large sizes: 32oz., 64oz., 128oz. so for some intense usage they'll save you money.

Even though right now I only take care of my car (and, on occasion, my roommate's), I switched from using mostly consumer products to a mix of stuff from the Detailer and Mirror Glaze lines. I still use a few things from the consumer line (Tech Wax 2.0, Endurance Spray, Ult. Wash & Wax, etc.). The Detailer line is great, because even if you're only washing one or two cars, if you can handle the up-front costs of buying stuff by the gallon, you won't have to restock for a significant amount of time, and you save money.

Plus, your garage looks so much cooler with all of those D-line bottles lined up on the shelf!

Not necessarily. The skill of the user is at least as important, if not more so, than what's in the bottle. What we mean by that is that no matter how good the product is, if you don't use it correctly you won't get the most out of it. Looking at the two product pairs you mention, it should be noted that UC is derived from M105 and UP is derived from M205. Yes, there are differences; they aren't the same products just in different bottles.

M105 will offer more cut than UC, but then again M105 is the most aggressive product we make, designed primarily for removing sanding marks with a rotary buffer. In the vast majority of cases you just don't need that level of cut for typical detailing. UC is also going to be much more user friendly on a DA than M105 - longer buffing cycle, a fraction of the dust level, and more than enough cutting ability. It's also less expensive and easier to source for a casual user.

M205 offers a bit more cut than UP, but UP has more polishing oils. That makes them a bit of a trade off, depending on what you're after. M205 is hugely popular for it's long work time, almost complete lack of dust, and it's fantastic ability to really refine a paint finish, bringing out great depth and clarity to the paint. It is quite a bit more expensive than UP, of course, and probably not as easy to source. But it is a fantastic product!

Thanks for the very detailed response -- I am perfectly happy with UC/UP and my PC. I think I will continue to practice with those and then tryout 105/205 down the road.

I'm starting to make the "switch" too. i love all of the meguiars products thats all ive used. i do friends and family cars as well with stuff like Meguiars claybar,polish,and wax. all by hand. but now im looking to get a DA polisher. so i wanna use a pro.polish and wax. i got Mirror glaze #7 and #26. im still going to swirlX. i just dont what pads to use or RPMs to go by..

Many of the Consumer Line products are DA friendly, if not more so than the Pro line; UC for instance.

With the DA, it is pretty simple as far as polishing pad for cleaners, finishing pad for waxes. MF pads for the MF system. Setting 5 for cleaning, 3 for waxing.
