Also, for the amateur detailer with a GG buffer, would you recommend the 5 or 6" pads? I have backing plates that fit either pad now.

    thanks
You can throw the microfiber discs in the washer and dryer with the same detergent you use on your microfiber towels.

As for use with the GG DA, or any other DA for that matter, we highly recommend the 5" discs with our W67DA backing plate. Many other backing plates use a long fingered hook & loop that will build up a lot of heat at the disc/backing plate interface and should be avoided. While you can use the 6" discs on a DA, you will lose some cut doing so. On very delicate paints, however, this can actually be a benefit as the larger discs can minimize any hazing created by the process that delicate paints are more susceptible to.

      Great write up , thank-you

Has any one tried cleaning the Microfiber pads with a Grit Guard Pad washer?

The Grit Guard Pad Washer is one of our recommended methods for routine cleaning of the pads during use. Even with the moisture picked up we don't see any decrease in performance with the compounding step, but we do recommend using just plain water in the pad washer, not any added cleaning solution.

Truly, a great write-up Tim, very informative for someone like me who has never polished a car using a DA polisher. Quick question - most of the time we are advised to wash, then clay, then apply polish and finally apply wax/sealant. Using this system, do we still need to clay the car?

          Thanks.

            Hey,

Thanks for the comments! Yes, I would still use the clay as it will remove the bonded contaminants whereas the MF DA pads will not. Besides, the clay will make the paint butter smooth!!!

              Tim-

Finally got to reading both parts of your review, and as usual, it was thorough and easy to understand.

I especially like the close-up shot of the pad showing how squashed it gets as compound and debris pack those fibers together.

I always like looking at the paint on that truck of yours... I know by seeing it that water doesn't just sheet off... if you were standing next to it, your shoes would fill with water!

Through various e-mails over the years and whatnot, I know how seriously you take these write-ups, and the effort certainly shines through!

              GREAT STUFF!
