  • Microfiber DA correction system... HERO or ZERO?

I have had the privilege to able to help out in the development of the new microfiber DA system for a little over four years or so.

I remember when I was first shown the pad I laughed at it and gave it very little attention. I was convinced to try them out and I was blown away.

Here are two of the prototypes of what I got to play with four years ago.

The yellow foam (for waxing) is kind of what they sponge bath grandma with. The black (cutting) is more like a rubber than a sponge.

I used these types of MF prototype pads on all of the major paint corrections I have done over the past four years. Here are a few.......

    Ducatti

    1967 El Camino

    Corvette ZR-1

    Lexus IS350

DB9 (write up will be posted soon!)

I have tested the latest configuration of the MF pads on countless vehicles with many different types of machines.

    DYNABRADE....

    Porter cable.....

    FLEX........

The system is revolutionary! Similar to how it was when over spray clay or foam pads came out.

I can get a very high level of defect correction almost effortlessly. The D300 is practically dustless (yes a little) and the wax is so easy to use it is scary!

The wax by its self leave a very nice shine on paint already in nice condtion.

Remember you still have to use the proper tool for the job..... What the system doesn't like........ soft paint, hot paint. I had a car painted with an old enamel paint job that I was attempting to correct in fun sun on a hot day. The MF system really did work at all on that.

My favorite machine with the system is my G100v2 (with D300 or #105) My least favorite, the cyclo.

If you have any questions ask away and I'll do my best to be helpful.

After priming the pad, are you still spreading the product out evenly and then going back over it at a slower 2" per second rate to start the correction process? Or are you applying product to the pad, and just starting away? Just wanting to make sure the process is still similar. Hopefully that makes sense... it does in my head anyways. lol

Joe, you are definitely right that some paints don't work well with this system. I polished a superformance cobra. I spoke with Mike Stoops prior to doing this job because I knew he had recently done one also. He warned me not to use the microfiber pad as it did not work with with the paint on that car (it is built in south africa). A rotary with M105/M205 ended up being what worked well.

Here is another car that the MF system just plain doesn't work on....... soft Porsche paint.

The good news is that the system works fabulously most of the time! One just needs to know where it will and will not excel.

I apply the product to the pad then start polishing right away. Your using very little product with the MF system and it will dry up if you spread it out.

That's kind of what I figured but I just wanted to be sure since the writes up's have all said use very little product. Thanks for the response!

What happened with the Porsche with the soft paint Joe?

Without knowing what developmental stage the products were in when Joe worked on the Porsche, or at the time Bob was going to work on the Superformance Cobra, we can tell you that on those softer paints you can sometimes do some amazing things with the finishing wax alone! Yes, with the much earlier development versions those SF Cobras really didn't like the pads, but having recently done one of those cars that only had some very fine towel marks, the finishing wax alone was gorgeous! And it took a whopping 20 minutes (maybe) to do.

D300 hazed up the finish. I did what Mike just mentioned, I used only the MF wax to polish it out and it corrected the haze.

With the Finishing pad/wax combo I could probably one step both my Black Bimmers. Hmmm. Versus UP/UW Double Hmmm.

This is really good to know, cause I imagine some day I will be doing more work on that cobra. The finishing pad and wax sounds like it will really get the job done. As usual....thanks for the great info.

                              Thanks for the review Joe!

I once put swirls in my paint just to see what it looked like.

                              I don't always detail cars, but when I do, I prefer Meguiar's.
                              Remove swirls my friends.
