unfortunately, i have dried product on it and it won't come off, even after a night soaking in strong mix of fairly liquid with water

I have a 2006 Dodge Ram Quad Cab with dark metallic blue paint. Last summer I left it parked in my driveway while I was in Florida for a few months... parked right next to my automatic sprinklers. As you can imagine, the water spots are very bad. I have been using a clay bar but the paint is badly etched.

It seems that the D/A Microfiber Correction System will be the way to go. However, in other threads I have seen Ultimate Compound and Scratch X recommended. I do intend to use a D/A in any case. So, here’s my question:

Of the three products, which do you think will do the best job on the water spots; D300, Ultimate Compound, or ScratchX?

One other question for you... in your instructions you said to set the D/A at 4800 for the Correction/Cutting and 3800 for the Finishing wax (D301). How much slower is ok for each step? (My D/A is pneumatic so I’m not sure of the speed... can I just run it slow?)
Water spots, in Florida where the water is downright horrible, left on for several months are going to be a real pain to remove. Definitely go with the microfiber system with D300 - maybe even use the new Extra Cut disc as well. If that isn't getting it done for you, then we would have no hesitation to step up to M100 or even M101 on a microfiber pad. We've worked on, oddly enough, a Dodge Ram that had been exposed to an almost identical scenario and we actually had to 3000 grit sand the finish because the etching was so deep. We aren't saying you should do the same since we haven't seen your truck in person, so don't just jump in with that! But a more aggressive compound on the microfiber extra cut disc may very well be the best course of action.

You have a potential negative working against you, and that's the use of a pneumatic DA. These are really designed for sanding and as such rarely have the necessary torque to allow for pad rotation when using some pressure. And sometimes you need fairly significant pressure with a DA to correct this sort of problem. It can prove to be very time consuming with a pneumatic DA.

mine has hardened little spots of dust (i guess?), are there any chances to remove them or pad is ruined?

      regards
As has been noted, the microfiber discs should be cleaned very frequently during a project - like after every section you polish, not just every panel. Compressed air the best, but a pad brush also works or you can run the pad against a clean microfiber towel to pull spent product and paint residue out of the pad. Also, they should be blown or brushed out at the end of a project before you set them aside prior to washing. Letting them sit in a matted state while the product dries just opens you up to this sort of situation. Even so, it's a bit surprising that you can't brush the fibers back up, even if they have dried.

        • fresh paint?

Hey everyone, I hope I didn't miss it if this was already a thread, but I want to use the DA microfiber system on the aftermarket/body shop paint that was done on my Audi about 6 months ago. I feel that by now the paint has cured as much as it's going to. I intend to coat it after its corrected to perfection. Any tips, tricks, or hints for using the system on non-OEM paint? Thanks!

As always start with a test spot with the least aggressive combo. If you have a polishing pad and polish I would start there. If you need more correction you can move to a compound and a cutting pad. If you need even more correction then move to the the microfiber cutting disc and compound. Depends on what the paint likes. Good luck.

Just wanted to jump in to say that I've been using DAMF for a short time now and I'm very pleased with it I have extremely hard black paint on my Coupe, as well as another car, and this system made true swirl-free, defect-free correction possible for me (upgrading from the thick foam pads with UC, UP and GC). The D30x liquids are far easier to remove for me, and the pads are aggressive enough for almost anything without fear of doing damage - at least on my hard paint. Here's my working combo for the Porter Cable:

              - MF Xtra Cut Disc with D300 Compound, Speed 5+
              - MF Cutting Disc with D302 Polish, Speed 4+
              - MF Finishing Disc with D301 Wax, Speed 3

I've had the Coupe in a local car show since the change and the other owners were drooling over my paint

              Thanks Meguiar's!

Just used the D/A system by starting off with the D300 compound and the DMC5 disc on a very soft Black Honda Pilot and as warned, received my share of haze left over. (But it did do a better job of getting out those day to day swirls/spider webs than using M205 alone).

Even though it's suggested to follow up using the D302 polish to get rid of the haze, since I already have some M205 on my shelf, can I just use that in lieu of the D302?

And if so, can I use M205 on the DMF disc or just on the Soft Buff Polish or Finishing Discs?

                Thanks

You are probably better off finishing with a foam pad. D302 has no abrasives in it where as M205 does. You may still have marring with M205 on a microfinber finishing disc.

Wyle, I'd stick with the DAMF system for a 3-step correction in this case. The Finishing/D302 should be all you'll need to correct the Cutting/D300 haze, particularly as followed by the Finishing/D301 cleaner-wax step. You can reserve your Cutting or Finishing/M205 or foam/M205 combos for 2-step maintenance when you maybe don't need 3 steps. The polishing oils in both polishes will yield the same great look. BTW, I feel the "cleaner" aspect of D301 does not remove the polished look, and if it does remove some oils, it seems to add some back at the same time. It's a fantastic wax.

It sounds like he doesn't have D302. In that case finishing with foam will be just fine. I would give the black finishing a pad a shot first since the vehicle has soft paint.

                            Gonna revive this ole thread....

I'm gonna attack my BLACK Chrysler 300 with D300, D301, and D302 with the following foam pad combinations. After claying the car I'm gonna use with my G110V2 DA....D300 with DFC6/DPB6 plate, D301 with W9207B, and D302 with W8207.

I've used UC and ULW plenty of times with 9207B and 8207 Just have a couple of questions from all of the pros before I get started in the next week or so.

                            1. Does anyone see any issues with my wax/pad combinations?

                            2. How often should I clean my foam pads while using this system? I just ordered a pad cleaning system today.

                            As always thanks in advance.

Why not get the MF pads to complete the set? Foam will be fine, but don't expect serious correction. Although, if you don't have serious defects, it's a wash. D300 will be very similar to UC but will finish better. D302 will be very similar to UP/M205. D301 will look awesome on your black paint

I also have to ask why you didn't get the microfiber pads. The liquids and pads were designed for each other.

D300 will work fine with the new burgundy foam cutting disk. I've had good results with it. The limitation would be the tool and technique. I would have recommended to go with 5" pads with the G110V2.

D302 has no correction ability. The pad will be doing the work. I will get to your pad combo shortly.

D301 could be considered a cleaner wax.

Based on what you have I would start with a test spot using D301 on the polishing pad. If you need more correction then move up to D300 on the foam cutting disk. If you get marring with D300 you will need to either follow up with a polish or cleaner wax. In this case D301 on a polishing pad might be all you need and you would be done. I would go this route.

If you intend to use the D302 polish then I would use it with the yellow polishing foam and follow up with D301 finishing pad.

It's not an ideal set up but it may be able to work.

Google cleaning on the fly. It should help you with how to clean pads. I clean mine after every panel and work clean.

When you are done clean your pads with a pad cleaner or APC.
