  • how many yellow pads do u use on entire car

hello i was wondering how many polishing pads do you use when correcting an entire vehicle...lets say ur correcting with UC...then ur gonna follow with UP, then with UW.

how many would u use for correction?
    how many for polish?
and of course one finishing for wax.

i been using 2 polishing pads for one car(a small sized car) for the correction step
one polishing,or one finishing for polish.
    and one finishing for wax.

i clean the pad on the fly everyother panel.
i only did 2 cars like that.
on the 3rd car, i was correcting on a polishing pad speed 5 n after about 20 min it tore up inside...had to get a new backingplate...on the 4th car i was using a brand new backingplate n brand new polishing pad nd after about halfway with the car on the same pad...after about 2 hours the pad got destroyed inside...

now i think the reason for this is maybe i need to switch pads about every hour?
i correct on speed 5...not too much pressure, the pad still spins...but i dont know why the 1st time it got torn up if it was only 20 min of use...i use the griots machine with 2.0 7inch pads and the w68da

i just need some info on how to prevent this from happening...i ordered 3 more polishing pads as i only have 2 right now(that are not torn up)
i figure 5 per car is good...i never had a problem before until the 3rd car i buffed

You shouldn't be destroying pads at all... something is definitely very wrong here. It's hard to say without seeing what you are doing.

How are you cleaning the pads on the fly?

well i stay on speed 5 at the most for correction...i put enough pressure to bog the machine down...

wat i mean by destroying pads..i refer to the velcro comin off the pad and getting super super stuck on the backingplate

If you use the same pad for a long time at speed 5 with a lot of pressure for correction than the velcro of the pad will heat up considerably. Sometimes it heats up to the point where it is hard to touch (happened to me once and learned my lesson) and the pad actually feels much softer and pliable than it should. At that point, I switch to a fresh pad.

Also, when the pad becomes loaded with product, the material becomes softer and more prone to tearing and ripping.

I use 3-4 pads for correction on an SUV (i.e. Honda Pilot) and 2-3 pads for correction on smaller cars.

My pad usage is similar to Shawn's. 2 pads on smaller vehicles (Ford Focus, Pontiac Vibe) 3 or 4 on larger vehicles (Honda Odyssey, full size pickups, Chevy Suburban). I try to not let the pad overly weighted down - there is a difference between a pad that has an appropriate amount of product on it and the overloaded (by both product & pressure) one that Shawn describes above.

                  +1

                  2-3 smaller vehicles,
                  3-4 medium/ large.

I agree with Greg and Shawn

                    2-3 smaller vehicles,
                    3-4 medium/ large.
                    4-5 4x4

Basically just keep an eye on your pad and make sure it does not generate to much heat or is saturated with product.

Specifically which backing plate and which pads? Some backing plates, including some of earlier units, are not the best choice for use with our Soft Buff 2.0 pads since the edges of the plate can, under certain circumstances, cut into the backing on those pads. If you're using our Soft Buff 2.0 pads then you really should be using our W68DA backing plate.
