  • When do I use Meguiar's Ultimate Compound

I am novice car washer and have never waxed a car. I just purchased all of the following yesterday:

    - Meguiar's Gold Class Wash (Shampoo and Conditioner) 64oz- $10 @ Kragen
    - 1 Viking microfiber waffle weave towel for main drying - $10 @ Kragen
    - Meguiar's Microfiber Car Wash Mitt - $9 @Amazon
    - Meguiar's Ultimate Detailing Kit- $27 @ Amazon. Includes:
    - 3pk Meguiar's Supreme Shine Microfiber towels
    - Meguiar's Ultimate Quik Wax
    - Meguiar's Ultimate Quik Detailer
    - Meguiar's Ultimate Compound

I have a new 2009 Toyota (dark metallic gray) so my paint is in great condition and has few-to-no spiderweb scratches/swirls. Will I need to use the UC at all? If I do use it, how and when do I apply it? (between washes, after the wash, before the wax, after the wax?) Like I mentioned, I'm pretty inexperienced with washing/waxing cars, which is why I went with the Quik Wax (which will be my primary wax - I know, I know....) and Quik Detailer (for in between washes). I'm very excited but I want to make sure I use everything correctly. Thanks!

There are many things that come into play with your task. It will be best to come up with a game plan for your project before actually touching the car. I expect any moment now some of the wise ones of the forum will jump into this discussion. Until that time here is some reading for you.

Agree with this ,Buy yourself a couple of buckets and grit guards, learn proper washing and drying techniques so you dont add swirls.
Claying may be your next step depending on the contaminants in your paint.
Then consider what polish to use depending on the amount of swirls in your finish .
follow that with a coat of NXT or Gold Class wax.
Plan on spending a couple nights reading up or watching videos on this site
Believe me ,the more info you have, the better results you will get !!!

Re: When do I use Meguiar's Ultimate Compound

Ok thanks. Well I've watched the how-to-videos on the products I've purchased (Ultimate Quik Wax and Ultimate Quik Detailer) and it looks really simple (that's why I bought them ). I don't really know what there is to think about for a couple nights.

I do agree with everyone on the Ultimate Compound. I'll definitely hold off on using it. Like I said, I really don't think I need UC, especially since it's so abrasive. I may just end up giving it away or selling it.

At this point I'm not looking to buy any more products than the one's I listed in my original post. I think I have all my basis covered for a simple, yet complete wash. If you have any other suggestions for technique though, please feel free to share. Thanks again!

Ok thanks. Well, I've watched the how-to-videos for the products I purchased (Ultimate Quik Wax and Ultimate Quik Detailer) and I must say it looks very easy and simple (which is why I bought them!).

At this point, I don't intend to purchase any more products, waxes, or finishes, other than the list of items from my original post. I feel I have all my basis covered, enough to have a simple, yet complete wash. Thanks again!

Ok I am trying to read through because in the control panel you have multiple posts of the same thing. If I delete something now you may need to re-post. But you should be able to post now that what you have already have posted has been approved.

Once again. Welcome to MOL and I am sorry you had so much trouble.
