    Ultimate Compound + Ultimate Polish vs M105 + M205

    Which would you prefer?

Ultimate Compound seems like much better value than M105 as you get about twice as much product for the same price. I assume Ultimate Polish would offer better value for money than M205.

M105 and M205 are made for rotary use and hence handling high temperatures thus are more pricey? So for hand use I'd be better off with an Ultimate Compound and Ultimate Polish combo?

The new Ultimate Wax also looks to be better than Nxt Tech 2.0 so will be switching to that as well.

Ultimate Polish will be milder than SwirlX, so I guess we will have to wait and see if the UP is strong enough for mild cleaning.

      So many variables........

In a body shop environment there is no question - M105/M205 all the way as UC and UP are not body shop safe.

For the casual user working via D/A, UC is much more user friendly in that it creates far less dust and offers a longer buffing cycle. Remember, M105 was primarily designed for use with a rotary buffer and wool pad to remove sanding marks from fresh paint. If you're working by hand it's sort of a toss up, but M105 can provide more cut than UC this way.

M205 vs Ultimate Polish on a D/A or by hand is also a toss up. Cost alone would likely push the casual user to Ultimate Polish. It would be a very close call to state that either of these two is more user friendly than the other. The difference between them, with regard to usability at least, is nowhere near as dramatic as the difference between M105 and UC.

Unless you're working with a rotary, or you need to remove sanding marks on a regular basis, you're likely to find UC/UP to be easier to use, and easier on your wallet, while returning comparable results overall.

Re: Ultimate Compound + Ultimate Polish vs M105 + M205

Thanks, that's exactly what I needed to know. So my regime will be:

        For the paint:
        Once a year:
        Wash with Nxt Gen
        Clay
        Ultimate Compound (only if necessary)
        Ultimate Polish
Ultimate Wax / Nxt Tech 2.0
        Ultimate Quick Detailer

Three or four times a year:
        Wash with Nxt Gen
        Ultimate Polish
Ultimate Wax / Nxt Tech 2.0
        Ultimate Quick Detailer

        Every two weeks:
        Wash with Nxt Gen
        Nxt Gen Glass Cleaner
        Ultimate Quick Detailer

        For the tyres and wheels:
        Clay - once a year
Wax wheels with Cleaner wax - three or four times a year
Nxt Gen Insane Shine Tyre Spray - once a month

For the exterior trim and interior plastics/rubber:
        Every 2 months:
        Ultimate Protectant

        For the leather interior:
        Every 2 months:

Gold Class Rich Leather Cleaner and Conditioner

        Tools:
        Meguiars Microfiber Wash Mitt
        Supreme Shine Microfiber Towels
        Water Magnet Drying Towel
        Quick Detailer/Final Inspection for claying
CCS Euro Foam Hand Polish Applicators

Think I got it all down there.

You may want to consider clay 3-4 times a year, if needed on the paint/glass.

Also, you may want to give Ultimate Quick Wax a try after your 'every 2 week' wash, in place of UQD.

Thanks for the info Mike! Being a hobbyist detailer, it's more comforting to know that there are cheaper alternatives to the M105/M205 combo. Not to mention the ease of obtaining these products.

Get the car dialed in once and then just be real picky about how you wash and dry it. You may find, depending on sensitivity of the paint and your diligence in the wash/dry process, that you'll never need Ultimate Compound again especially if you use Ultimate Polish a couple of times a year.

A little preventative maintenance goes a long, long way.

Yep, I am extremely picky about what I use on my car. If I drop a cloth on the floor for 2 seconds there's no way I'll use it again on the car until it's washed and cleaned. I only became this way after getting the 350z a few months ago though and reading about car care online. Had a RunX that I bought new in 2006 that I never waxed or even washed myself. Used to take it to the car wash maybe once in 3 or 4 months. Once I even went 6 months without a wash! When it used to rain I love driving because my RunX would look a lot cleaner. Now when it rains I am cursing because I don't want water spots and dirt on my Z from the rain. Amazing how our perception on car care can change in the space of a few months. I only got the Z for just over 3 months now and my cupboard is slowly getting full with car care products

I want to buy in bulk as I'll be going through the stuff pretty fast. UQW apparently only comes in a small spray bottle. I'm planning on buying a gallon of #135 as it is similar to UQD. If UQW came in a gallon size I would consider it depending on price.

If I was stranded on an island I would choose 105 all day long

This is a new for 2011 product which is the equivalent of UQW and in gallon size.

                      Synthetic X-press spray Wax

Looks good. Will use this instead then.

Mike, let's say all things are equal(DA, pad, speed, etc...), which has the potential of finishing down better with a Flex 3401, M205 or UP?
