  • Re: Ultimate Wax

Detailing terminology is confusing even for the experienced professional detailer.

Lots of polishes are actually sealants. Some polishes are actually compounds. There is NO standard terminology in detailing products.

It wouldn't matter how much money you spent you will not be able to teach "Average Joe" consumer the difference between a polymer sealant and a carnauba wax.

Ultimate Compound is derived from M105
Ultimate Polish is derived from M205
Ultimate Wax is a NEW Polymer sealant

The terms Compound, Polish and Wax are terms "Average Joe" understands.
He rubs it on or wipes it on and wipes it off and says "Dude, that's shiny!"
He doesn't understand covalent bond polymer technology nor does he want to. Don't try.
All he wants to know is that it went on easy, it came off easy and "Dude, that's shiny!".

Ultimate liquid wax and Ultimate paste wax are identical chemical products with the exception of an additive to make the paste a paste.
This paste version additive can stain trim. If you want the therapy of using a paste wax then UPW is for you. I like the ease of ULW.
I feel the Ultimate Wax products are excellent products and a a huge leap forward in technology for a "Average Joe" consumer product.

Don't discount this fact. When I switched from using ULW to the paste version it didn't even cross my mind that it shouldnt be used on trim since NXT2.0 and ULW works so well in those locations. Well, if you search a little you'll find a couple threads documenting my frustration at the staining left behind by UPW. UPW is absolutely fantastic on painted surfaces and was MUCH easier to work with than ULW but simply will not come off of blakc plastic trim (though ironically worked great on my matte black plastic bicycle fenders which I used as a recent test medium for removal options...)

What did you use to finally remove it from your trim?
Does IPA or Mineral Spirits remove it?

So far washing with regular car soap, ONR, UQD, Simple Green and meguiars M39 HD vinyl cleaner has had no effect. Winter has stalled my detailing but next up is Dawn then IPA wipe down if necessary and finally Mr Clean Magic Eraser. I have a thread about it somewhere if you search my name.

Purchased Utimate Wax Liquid on Saturday. Washed with Deep Crystal wash, used Ultimate Polish, and then a coat Ultimate wax. I applied with a PC 7242 XP DA with a Lake Country Black Pad on speed 3. I proved the bad with a quick squirt of ultimate detail spray and aapplied 5 dots about the size of a dime. Applied a nice thin coating on the entire vehicle. Let dry and replaced pad with a Lake Country Blue pad and a white microfiber pad at speed 5. I applied the wax in an overlap pattern of 50% passing in a front of vehicle to back of vehicle then in a a cross pattern.

The finish came out perfect with no streaks and a brilliant shine and a warm look. I have a 2011 Dodge Nitro in a Deep Charcoal Pearl. The weather was 50 degrees F when started by the time I finished polishing the temperature was around 45 degrees F. The only issue that I had was it started raining about 2 hours after I finished. Guess I'll have to tell the wife I have to start over. (this is how I get out of going shopping at the mall). The water really beaded off and was coming off as I was driving. I only added one coat because of time. Had to go to dinner for New Years Day. Previous product that I used was NXT 2.0 Liquid wax. Never had an issue with that wax.

I really enjoy reading the forums as I love to learn new things. Thanks goes out to all who provide the information.

Did you try a little gozo no pumice on the wax stain. Wipe it on and wipe off with a mf. No water needed. Should work

Merlin, your explanation is dead on.

It's important to remember that people who frequent detailing forums know far, far more about how various products work than the "average consumer" does. That also means it's really hard for you guys to make your brains think the way an uniformed brain thinks - it's hard to forget what you know, and it's harder to have to start thinking about things that are now second nature to you.

It's the total noobs, the average consumer, who asks questions like "now that I've sealed my paint, what wax do I use?", "is it safe to polish my car now that I've waxed it?", and "do I have to wash my car before I use this Cleaner Wax? After all, it says it cleans." (yep, we actually get that question from time to time).

                      Hello,

I'm quite sick and I always apply (or eat) too much of everything, I will try my best but what is the problem if I apply too much of the ultimate wax ?

And it seems easier for me to apply on the full car and them wipe, what the maximum time that I should take to apply on the full car ?

                      Thanks <3

The consequence of applying too much is making it harder on you to remove.

You are not going to like this answer but it takes as long as it takes. That varies by person. If it takes you one hour then that is too long.

What color is your car? By applying too thick, and applying to the whole car before wiping off, there is also a risk of the UW streaking, especially on darker colored vehicles.

It's not the end of the world if it does streak (can be fixed) it's just a bit of extra work.

White car, but anyway I will try to improve and use just a little.

How long before the second layer in your opinion ?

                            thanks.

Try to wait 12-24 hours. If that's not practical, just wait as long as you can.
