DC Polish is a different product than Ultimate Polish. DC polish is a pure polish indicating no abrasives wherewas Ultimate Polish makes use of fine abrasives and SMAT to remove light imperfections and restore gloss.

Both contain a lot of polishing oils though.

After applying Ultimate Polish, how long do you have to wait to apply Ultimate wax? Can you apply immediately after wiping off Ultimate Polish or is there a waiting period?

          Thanks

Immediately after removing the polish is completely fine. No reason to wait!

I understand that DC is Pure while UP has SMAD .. But all these new products make me feel like a 4 year old when he sees an ice-cream truck .. No matter how much I had back at home I always wanted more and the new one !!

This is great! Now, I can just buy a bottle of this, in place of my M205, when I run out.

I'll be trying out UP this weekend with my d/a. After going through all the posts I'm left with one question: which pad should I start with, yellow (polishing) or black(finishing)?

What are you looking to accomplish with it?
                    • Light to moderate swirls on fairly soft paint - yellow pad, speed 5, moderate pressure
                    • Light swirls on very delicate paint - black pad, speed 4, moderate to light pressure
                    • Refine paint that is almost perfect, or as a follow up to UC - black pad, speed 4, moderate pressure

There are quite a few options beyond this, depending on your ultimate (no pun intended) goal. Experiment a bit, do a test spot, get a feel for the product and how your paint responds to it.

Correction performed with UC initially and followed up with SwirlX,not sure if I'd call my paint soft but UC was leaving some swirl/hologram like defects on the hood but the rest of the car was fine. Right now I'd say the car is around 90% after the SwirlX session with the hood now being defect free. Would the third option on your list be the way to go(black pad, speed 4, mod.pressure)?

Quite possibly, but we'd still do a test spot or two in order to determine what really works best. There just isn't any way to say with absolute certainty via computer how that paint is going to react, so the best we can do is give you a starting point. The rest is up to you.

That's what I'm looking for, especially with UP being such a new product with so little in the way of real world experience available to draw from.

So, Michael, I know that UC and UP are designed for use by hand or DA. What about a rotary at steady low speed (600 RPM) via Makita 9227?

It might be new, but it is based on M205 and that product has a very strong following, with a proven track record.

We've seen people get really good results using UC on a rotary, even though, technically, it isn't rated for that tool. One would suspect that an experiment with UP at low speed on a rotary could quite possibly yield very good results. You certainly aren't going to hurt anything playing with it - if it works great, it works great. If not, no harm, no foul. It's the repeatability on various paint systems that comes into question when using a product outside its design parameters.

Forgive me for asking here and the MF D/A System thread, has anyone tried Ultimate Polish on a clear bra?
