Can anyone tell me what, exactly, "For glossy finishes only - Do not use on flat, matte or satin finishes" means? It's the first thing the instructions say on the bottle.

"The Dude Abides"
By definition a flat, matte, or satin finish is a non-glossy finish and the purpose of a polish is to add gloss to a finish through the increase of the surface's shininess or its ability to reflect light.
If you polish a matte finish, thereby adding gloss or shininess to the surface then the finish will no longer be a matte finish.
Bingo. With the growing popularity of matte/flat paint finishes we get a lot of calls asking if it's OK to use our polishes and waxes on them, or how to remove a scratch. In some cases we get calls from people who are upset that the finish of their car is now a bit shiny because they used a polish on it. Heck, we had one young guy call up close to furious that we "ruined" his new paint job. Seems he had just painted his car flat black and then went over it with Deep Crystal Polish. Not everyone is a detailing expert, so sometimes a little help in the form of a warning on the label can save someone a headache.

Lots of great information in this thread. Definitely helped to clear some questions I was asking myself.
The "For glossy finishes only - Do not use on flat, matte or satin finishes" would apply to vinyl graphics that are matte as well correct?
Definitely keep this and similar products, and even waxes, off of matte/flat vinyl. Glossy vinyl can be waxed over without issue.
