Clearcoat is paint without pigment. All Wheel Cleaner gets used on this all the time without issues, but at the same time this is a low pH product (~2.0) that has been known to damage paint on some disc brakes (when misused). Typically the issues I have seen with disc brakes have been when the product has been left on for a long period of time (I'm talking minutes) or when the brakes are hot.

All I can say is do a test spot. Wet the wheel, spray the product, rinse it off right away. Increase the dwell time as you feel comfortable.

All Wheel Cleaner has a pH level of 2.0 (which is acidic). Aluminum Wheel Cleaner has a pH level of 7.0 (which is balanced - water is 7.0). So yes Aluminum Wheel Cleaner is milder.

If a balance product (like car wash soap) isn't providing enough cleaning power, then you may want to use the All Wheel Cleaner (I'd skip the Aluminum Wheel Cleaner for your application, you are not cleaning bare aluminum. It not like staining will be an issue).

Make sure your wheels are wet and watch your dwell time. You're not working with a product that instantly eats metal and paint, let's not get carried away.

Re: Hot Rims all wheel cleaner on painted rims?

I worked on a vehicle with painted rims 2 weeks ago. I used all wheel cleaner no problems. But instead of using a wheel brush, use a sponge or something else non abrassive. And take it easy. The guy who brought in the vehicle used a wheel brush and accidentally rubbed off the paint on one of the points.

Nothing wrong with going to the Aluminum Wheel cleaner, or soap and water if worried.

I dont know how spray canned wheels would compare to the factory paint.

All Wheel Cleaner is safe and effective on all factory coated wheels. From what you're saying it sounds as though the wheels in question here have been rattle canned by you or a friend, right? If so, all bets are off and you're best to stick with either the Aluminum Wheel Cleaner or soap and water.

i dont know what long term effect it will have on my wheels. but i have factory painted wheels, and i used hot rims all wheel cleaner for the first time about a week or 2 ago. my wheels have never looked so good. no other wheel cleaner has given my wheels this much shine. i even got a compliment on them from a friend a few days ago.
