  • What pads for Griot 6"?

    Hi all,

I'm new to DA - just got new Griot 6" with Orange 6" pad.
I know that one pad isn't enough even to get started - or is it?
I see that Megs pads are top sale at amazon, but all those ether 5.5 or 6.5
    I don't see any for 6"
Griot's plate is 5 3/4 - so I think 5.5 would be smaller than plate and as result plate can contact paint - no idea if that's the case
No, I don't want to buy new 5" backing plate to be able use it with 5.5" pads
unless it's the way to go by all means

I plan to use Megs UC and then NXT 2

what pads would you recommend for my case?
I'm not pro and don't have any plans to polish any other cars, but my 2 family cars once or twice year.

    thanks.

I am a big fan of the 7" soft buff 2.0 series pads. You will need several of the yellow 8207 polishing pads and several of the black 9207 finishing pads. I would only get 1 of the 7207 maroon cutting pads to start with. All the pads in this series work well and can be cleaned up at the end of the day in your washing machine and be ready to go for the next time.

      7" ?
I though that even 6.5" is big as many want to use 5.5"
      I'm confused ...
will GG6 deliver enough power to rotate 7" pad?

      tnx

I have a Porter Cable XP7424 as my primary DA and the mount for the pads is 5". I have used some Lake Country pads because they came with the polisher. I have used the 6.5" Meguiar's pads. But I prefer the Soft Buff 2.0 pads for the reasons in my earlier post. The GG6 should be able to rotate them without difficulty. I attempt to maintain 6 vehicles (3 at home, daughter has 1, son & dau-in-law have 2) in my extended family and do cars for pay from time to time. I have used a GG6 once and it seems to have slightly more power than the Porter Cable.

The new Griot's tool has plenty of punch, as does the PC 7424XP and our own G110v2, to run a 7" pad. That's all we use in our Saturday Classes (along with Ultimate Compound) and we've had fantastic results on everything that's come our way so far. Check out any of the threads in the Pictures from Saturday Classes section of the forum.

I too am planning on a GG6 and this is a question I have as well. To anyone's knowledge can the Meguiars backing plates (specifically the plate for the Soft Buff 2.0 pads) be used on the Griots polisher? I'm thinking this should alleviate any physical compatability concerns but correct me if I'm wrong.

Yes, most all the DA's have the same size threading spindle.

Re: What pads for Griot 6"?

now I want new Meg's MF pads (based on DISO pics http://meguiarsonline.com/forums/showthread.php?t=45071), but it may take another month or two or even more to be able buy those as it wasn't available yet
and for 2nd pass and for wax may go with LC HT pads. Not sure yet.
May be instead of Meg's MF pads I will go with Subruf Micro Fingers if I can't wait.
                I'm not in rush.

I just got the GG 6" DA and a couple of the original Meg's pads. Can't wait to use it!
However I am looking at getting the new Meg's 2.0 pads, would you guys recommend the Meg's 2.0 backing plate as well or just stick with the GG backing plate?
                  Thanks,

If you're going to use our Soft Buff 2.0 backing plates then do yourself a huge favor and get the W68DA backing plate to go with them. It's much more than just a convenience issue with it fitting perfectly into the recess on the back of the pad; it offers wider support, and flexible support, for the pad which in turn translates into better and more uniform cutting ability across the face of the pad.

A backing plate on top of a backing plate?

Well, no - you take the other backing plate off and replace it with the W68DA

kinda what I figured, but wanted to be sure....

I'll be sure to add the soft buff 2.0 backing plate and pads to the list!
