  • Grit guard?

When using the 2 bucket system do I need 2 grit guard for each bucket or one for the rinse bucket?

Is the item worth it? cost about 15 for one. Will it really improve the overall finish of wash?

To be totally safe, one Grit Guard in each bucket would be ideal.

Can i just get one for the rinse bucket? I'm really low on money since I recently bought lots of detailing products. If I use one with the rinse bucket and scrub it on the grit guard real good, do I need one for the soap one? When I put the microfiber into the soap bucket I don't touch the bottom of the bucket.

Would meguiar micro wash mitt work better then microfiber cloth when using the two bucket system?

Do I really need 2? Looks like the 2nd bucket wouldn't benefit from it because I already clean the wash mitt with 1st bucket. And when I put it into the soap I don't go all the way down to the bucket.

You don't need to wash your car at all.

But since you do, it's a question of how far you want to take it.

Two Grit Guards works best. But like Murr1525 said, one is better than none. I would add that one is much better than none.

I always use two and after a wash there's still a very small amount of dirt that collects in the wash bucket. It's really, really small compared to what's in the rinse bucket. But there's still a little.

If you do a really thorough job rinsing your mitt/cloth and never touch the bottom of the bucket when scooping up the next splash of soap you should still get great results with just one. But I'm sure you'll want pick up another when finances allow.

I doubt you will find one in stores.

                  Re: Grit guard?

This thread might pick up a little of the "suds vs no suds" debate.

This is one reason why I add soap to the bucket after I add the water in an effort to avoid suds. As mentioned, a little dirt may still be left on the sponge/mitt even after being cleaned in the rinse bucket. When it's then dipped into the wash bucket, that dirt can become trapped in any suds on the surface. The suds then support that dirt so it does not fall to the bottom of the wash bucket.

But in the end, both this and the OP's post all fall back to being uber careful about transferring dirt back onto the vehicle. What we are talking about is leaps and bounds more careful then what 99% of the people normally do to prevent paint damage.

Two is ideal, but if you really can only get one, but it in the rinse bucket. And when picking up soap from the soapy water bucket, you want to go deeper into the bucket and not just grab suds off the top. You want that soap-in-water on the mitt because that's what does the actual cleaning, not the suds themselves.

What you can do to help with maintaining the quality of your finish, and it's virtually free, is to keep your wash mitt and drying towels as clean as possible. Always wash and dry them after use and store them in such as way as to keep dust off them.

When I first tried the grit guard. I ordered 2. This was about 4 years ago.Wanted to keep one extra, Just in case. I would use it just in the rinse bucket.. One day I decided lets try 1 in each bucket. I was amazed at how much grit was trapped in the wash bucket. Now, I am a firm believer of using 2 grit guards.

I always use 2 grit guards even when my car is still very clean, and especially when I am cleaning a very dirty car. I just enjoy having that extra bit of safety in my mind and also after you use it that way once, I think you will be surprised the bit of extra grit that is trapped

So if I was going use 2 grit guards, would I have to scrub the mitt onto the grit guard in the soap bucket? Thank you guys for your help!

Edit: Do they sell megiuar microfibers in any stores? I went to about 4-5 stores today non of them had megiuar microfiber products.

I can find plenty of their soap, tire cleaner, shine, leather condition, swirl x. Most of the applications but no where has their microfiber mitts. Will the Wal-mart microfiber be as good as the Megiuar? Their stuff is real cheap only 3 dollars.
