  • Black Harley

Just another Harley, owner wanted it cleaned up a bit before he went on a big ride.

The owners main concern was that all the black brake dust was cleaned out from all the corners in the wheels.

I washed the wheels and tires with Deep Crystal Car Wash, All Purpose Cleaner and various brushes.

I washed the bike with Gold Class Car Wash Shampoo & Conditioner and a Meguiars wash mitt.

Even after the wash, there was still some brake dust in the corners of the wheels.

    Before:

I cleaned it out with a toothbrush and All Purpose Cleaner, took a couple hours just to do the wheels.

    After:

There was a lot of overspray on the paint, the owner takes his bike to work sometimes and his F-250 had the same amount of contamination. It felt like sandpaper.

I heavily clayed the bike with Detailing Clay (Mild) and Last Touch Spray Detailer at 1:1.

I removed a couple of random defects with Ultimate Compound, I polished all the paint by hand with SwirlX and numerous foam applicator pads. Some areas required several applications. I also applied some Deep Crystal System Polish.

I sealed the paint with NXT Generation Tech Wax 2.0 x2, topped with #26 - Hi-Tech Yellow Wax.

All chrome and aluminum was polished with Hot Rims Chrome Polish and Hot Rims Mag Aluminum Polish. I sealed the chrome with some #20 - Polymer Sealant.

I used Gold Class Rich Leather Spray on the seat followed by a wipedown with a damp mf and some Quik Interior Detailer.

All cracks and crevices were brushed out with a paintbrush.

Sorry, didnt get any pictures of the bike in the sun.

        Didnt have the time.

The owner came right when I finished taking the last couple of pictures in the garage. I did the best I could with the lighting in the garage.

Plus I had to leave to go detail an F-250 across town.

If you doubt that I am able to rub a bike out by hand, then take a look in this thread for some sun shots of a Harley:

Nice job on the Harley. Bikes are a lot of work. That's why I don't ride a Harley :-)

Nick, if I get a chance, I will take some photos of something I created to get motorcycles off the ground and move them around. You could customize the design to your preference. Likely you don't detail enough bikes to justify the creation, but you'll likely be interested in seeing the design.

Give me a couple of days or weeks to get around to taking the photos.

Great Work Nick! What do you use to blow out the water from the crevices with?

I once put swirls in my paint just to see what it looked like.

                  I don't always detail cars, but when I do, I prefer Meguiar's.
                  Remove swirls my friends.
