Great class yesterday!! Thanks to everyone who came out for the day, and for bringing all that enthusiasm with you!

Without further delay, here are pictures from the day.....

First, we start out talking about the need for a foam interface pad and the differences between sanding discs and finishing discs.

We start by rubbing together the abrasive side of two similar discs in order to remove the induction layer. This is a protective coating on the face of the discs that should be removed prior to use. If you fail to do this then you will likely notice the disc not cutting much at first until you wear off the induction layer. This method simply speeds up the process.

Since this is damp sanding and not wet sanding, all we need is a spritz or two of water on the surface and a similar amount on the abrasive disc itself prior to sanding.

Checking out the results after an initial pass with a 1500 grit finishing disc.

We took some paint thickness readings to gauge how much paint was being removed. This process should remove only about 0.1 mil, maybe even less.

As a comparison we then sanding half of our initial area with a 3000 grit finishing disc.

Before we started buffing we cleaned our pads. A spur was used to clean the wool pad and here a nylon brush is being used to clean a foam polishing pad.

We start compounding using a wool pad on a rotary buffer and M105 Ultra Cut Compound. Here we're pointing out the proper method for picking up a bead of M105.

Switch the tool on and roll down onto the bead, picking it up across the 10 o'clock - 2 o'clock imaginary line under the pad.

Later, we do the same process with a foam polishing pad to pick up a bead of M205 Ultra Finishing Polish.

Inspecting the finish as we go.

Then it was time to cut everyone loose and let them try the tools and techniques.

Hey, what are you guys looking at???

Uh-oh... pigtails! Who did that??? Better buff those out!

    Pigtails banished by M105!

Ah man! I wish I could have been there!

I once put swirls in my paint just to see what it looked like.

      I don't always detail cars, but when I do, I prefer Meguiar's.
      Remove swirls my friends.

It looks like it was a fun class. I might have to book a vacation to California some day and attend a workshop.

I love the last photo after using M105.

Looks like alot of fun. Wet sanding still scares me a bit. Exp by air. Have done it on headlights, but thats less scary then paint! Ha.
