  • Speed of Rotary Polisher? older B&D 992

I use a older Black & Decker 992 rotary polisher and have no idea what the speed is on it! It's 25+ years old! I have noticed that their are recamended speeds for all products and have no idea where I'm at. any advice.

Does it have a dial with numbers?

If the paint is smoking turn the speed down bit.

Is it at least a variable speed tool?

No, just 1 speed. seems pritty fast, I just use it with 105 or 205 for major paint correction and then finnish with my DA v2

mayby I should just take it down to my local detail shop and compare to a variable speed to get an idea!

It seems most single speed tools tend to run very quickly, probably more so than you really want for routine paint correction. Comparing it to another tool with known speeds is probably your best bet, and a good idea to be safe.

Search the tool for rated RPM. If your 1800 or less your OK.
