  • Paste Cleaner Wax vs. Liquid Cleaner wax

I recently read an article by Mike Phillips saying that the cleaner waxes actually have a small amount of diminishing abrasives. Would the liquid version of the paste wax clean better than the paste wax as you can get more product or do they both clean equally? Thanks guys.

Well, it is a very small amount.

It is possible to scoop up a good bit of paste to be able to work in to the paint, though liquid may be easier for most people.

But if your surface really needs cleaning, I would look at something else.

The cleaning ability of any product has to do with the actual cleaning ingredients in the product and the method of application, not whether you can carry more product to the paint. Cleaning ability between the two versions would be equal, all things being equal. That said, you may find the liquid version easier to use with a buffer of some sort and that combination may give you more cleaning action, but that is not a function of it just being the liquid version of the wax.

As has been pointed out, Cleaner Wax has very light cleaning ability compared to a dedicated paint cleaner (even a mild paint cleaner) so depending on what you're looking to accomplish, it may or may not be the best choice for you.

Thanks. I like using paste more than liquid and just wanted to see if I was using anything with a different amount of cleaning ability. Thanks again!

With Meguiar's, liquid or paste, you will get the same result. However, I prefer using the liquid version for my paint sealant, and paste for my carnauba topper.

I prefer the paste over the liquid too coopers. When I use the cleaner/wax I always apply 2 thin coats and work each coat in pretty good and it leaves a great smooth finish almost like when you just get through claying. For the price and finish it leaves it just can't be beat!

Re: Paste Cleaner Wax vs. Liquid Cleaner wax

I know pastes have more PDs than liquids, so for cleaner waxes I find pastes have more oomph due to the (unintended) cleaning attribute of the PDs.

More than likely a blend of carnauba and polymers.
