  • 1999 Grand Prix GT Engine Detail

The UPS truck came yesterday with my first order from ADS. I took advantage of their 25% off Detailer Line gallons sale last week, and couldn't wait to try out the Super Degreaser and Hyper Dressing! Actually, I'm antsy try all of the other stuff out too, but the forecast is calling for rain for the next couple of days, so the rest will have to wait until next week. My new G110V2 is supposed to come today!

Anyway, so I decided to go ahead and clean under the hood of my Grand Prix. The car has almost 178,000 miles on it, and aside from an occasional rinse, I've never done an all out cleaning on the engine. I diluted SD 4:1 and HD 3:1. Here are some pics:

I was pretty happy with the way it turned out. I missed a pretty good sized area on the passenger side around the water pump, but I'll get it next time. I showed my girlfriend my work, and her reply was, "Why would you clean your motor? It's always covered up, and you never see it".

That came out excellent, especially for the mileage!
There's no reason to become alarmed, and we hope you'll enjoy the rest of your flight. By the way, is there anyone on board who knows how to fly a plane?

First, I removed that big plastic cover on top and discovered that there was indeed an engine under there, and a dirty one at that! Then I sprayed the (cool to the touch) engine with Super Degreaser diluted 4:1, scrubbed a little here and there, rinsed, wiped off excess water, applied Hyper Dressing diluted 3:1, wiped off excess HD, replaced the engine cover, which I cleaned and dressed separately, then took pictures!

The under side of the hood was pretty dirty. I used the 4:1 SD on it too, along with some elbow grease. It looks LOTS better.
