We all know that we're supposed to apply wax in a very thin layer, and many of us prefer using a G110v2 or other D/A for this purpose. Of course a liquid wax makes it a bit easier to get product from container to pad, but what about those who like paste waxes? Butter knife, spatula or even fingertips can be used to transfer product from container to pad, but there is a better way.
Our new W9204 Soft Buff 4" finish pad is about to hit the market (along with the W8204 polishing and W7204 cutting pads, of course) and these are perfect for applying paste wax via G110v2.
Here we have a brand spanking new can of NXT Generation Tech Wax 2.0 Paste:

A W9204 Soft Buff 4" pad mounted to a G110v2 looks ready to just drop right into the can.
And in fact, it's a perfect fit. You don't even need to switch the tool on; just put a bit of pressure on the pad and swirl it around inside the can (yes, in this case "swirl" is a good thing!) Turning the tool on, even at a low speed, can tend to pick up too much product and can even be a bit tricky.
Here is the wax transferred to the face of the pad. Honestly, this is almost excessive, and what you see here was more than enough to cover the entire hood of a PT Cruiser.
Application is straightforward and identical to using a larger pad. The tool is still set to speed 3 and light to moderate pressure is applied. It really doesn't take any longer to apply with the small pad compared to the larger pad, and getting into tight areas or along A-pillars is a snap.
After covering the whole hood, the pad still looked like this. It felt damp to the touch and probably had enough product on the face to cover a fender or most of a door. Don't automatically keep adding more product to the pad just because - if you can transfer a film of product to the paint, then continue to do so. A little really does go a long way.
A thin and uniform layer applied and allowed to dry. Piece of cake!!
This is how the can looked after use - you can barely tell that anything was removed from the can!! Coverage was uniform but thin, and wipe off was extremely easy once the wax was fully dry. And it dried very quickly, too!
These pads will be available very soon (some of you may have 4" pads from a competitor already), so don't let the fact that you apply wax with a D/A prevent you from using a paste wax if you so desire.
