  • Paste wax lasts longer than liquid wax

I read it on some website, that paste wax lasts longer than liquid wax (in terms of protection). This is of course, same brand and kind. Is this true?

Re: Paste wax lasts longer than liquid wax

Meguiar's has never stated it for their waxes.

It is always possible that some company made or makes their products differently for the different versions.

I always thought that they are the same. It's just what you prefer. "Old School" detailers prefers using paste waxes.

Everything I'd read states they are the same and using one or the other is preference. Mike has stated most people use liquid as it's easier to apply with a DA/Rotary.

I look at it this way, wiping it onto the paint pretty much melts it down to the same consistency anyway. Then they both cure the same.

I think what you read comes from what people thought when liquid was first coming out.

Tim has said he likes paste waxes in damp conditions, seem to dry faster. But other than that, what is left behind should be the same.

#16 is one of the best but it's hard to be #21 2.0 for protection. I hope that I never have to apply wax by hand.....ever! I can put a more even, uniform coat on a surface with my G110 and twice the speed as by hand.

Then again, some just like putting on paste wax.

I'f I'm using a paste such as M16 I'll apply it by hand. It's easy to do since it's applies so thin, it's a little bit of a pain to apply cann'ed wax to a DA pad and I'm also including washing time of the pad. Granted, I still need to wash the foam hand applicator so I'm probably just fooling myself but I think the hand applicators clean up more quickly and I also wash them both by hand. So in the end, it's probably a _wash_.

Re: Paste wax lasts longer than liquid wax

As far as Meguiar's is concerned, there is no difference in final result when using a paste of liquid of the same product. That is, NXT Tech Wax 2.0 will give the same protection and longevity whether you use the paste of liquid version, M26 High Tech Yellow Wax will give the same protection and longevity whether you use the paste of liquid version, and so on.

That is not to say that NXT and M26 offer equal protection and longevity - only that within a given product it makes no difference which format you choose.

I sometimes read about such durability discussions in forums with no clear winner or facts. AFAIK only one company commited itself : Turtle Wax claims on their website that ICE paste lasts longer than ICE liquid.

                      Collinite claims the same;

                      http://www.collinite.com/faqs.htm#7

                      7) Would you recommend waxing with a liquid/gel wax or paste wax?

This is personal preference. Both will give you very similar shine and protection. There is a direct correlation between difficulty of job and durability. The paste is considerably harder to work with, but the protection in terms of length of durability is superior. The liquid/gel application is more popular among users because it is considerably easier to work with and still lasts around 6 months.

Well, make that two companies now. As stated, Meguiar's is telling you that with our waxes it makes no difference if you use the liquid or paste version of the same wax - you'll get the same result.

Quite possibly, they may well have slightly different properties (by design, or by side-affect). As stated earlier, Meguiars happens to be of the mind-set that they go to great lengths to ensure the paste and liquid end up with nearly identical results. Personally I prefer that, but it is up to each brand manufacturer to decide how their particular products are optimized and behave. A different manufacturer might chose to trade-off a little more work applying one wax variation to get increased durability, etc - totally their choice.

It does seem that paste wax has a better shelf life than liquid. Liquid will eventually seperate, not sure what (if anything) a paste wax will do to become unusable.

I wouldn't mind swapping a couple bottles of NXT 2.0 liquid for some additional paste versions.
