  • Ultimate Compound to remove tree sap or bird droppings

Hello, this is my first post.

I've just use Ultimate Compound on a 1991 Lexus dark green / almost black car and it comes up like new for a 19 year old car.

I had the car since new and has the original paint. This car has never been resprayed or in an accident.

I use the clay bar (first time ever), then use two passes of the Ultimate Compound and the Wax 2.0.

I have some trouble spots of bird dropping and it seems like tree sap. The tree sap seems like it has etch onto the clear coat.

I'm just wondering how do I remove the etches in teh clear coat without going with wet sanding.

Oh it took a good 7 hours to do the bonnet, roof and boot but it comes up like new.

Well, the way to remove etchings is with Ultimate Compound. If the etchings are very deep, they may be hard to remove by hand, so if you have already done a few applications, you may be at the best you can do.

An etch mark in the paint, regardless of its source, can only be removed by leveling the surrounding material. Depending on how deep this etch is, or how deep any below surface defect is (including scuffs, scratches, stains, etc) will determine how much surrounding material needs to be removed, or if it is even possible to safely remove enough to eliminate the defect. The hardness of the paint itself will play a huge role in how easy, or difficult, it is to do this.

Ultimate Compound generally can remove these defects, but in the case of very hard paint you may need something with more cutting power, like M105 Ultra Cut Compound. Of course, you application method will play a role here too.

Too true about this one! I have seen it several times before so fingers crossed it isn't too badly etched into the surface. I'm from Adelaide and i'm sure there are several places in Sydney in which you can pick up the above cutting compound that Michael recommended. Don't mean to name any places but Autobarn is a place which you will either see it on the shelf or they can get it in. I think as a retail price it hovers around $85 or $100 per bottle but it is a handy product to have for those stubborn stains and can be applied by hand or machine if you have access. I work at an Autobarn store in Adelaide, Elizabeth and have used this product. I also highly recommend it. Feel free to give me a call if you like!

Thanks Aussie, there is an Autobarn where I go pass everyday to work - somewhere near Bankstown. I might stop by and pick a bottle up. $100.00 is expensive, but if the M105 is as good as UC and can remove the etchings then I'll get a bottle.

There is also a DA sander from Supercheap Autos for $30.00, is this worth while getting? Where do I get the pads from?

The Autobarn at Bankstown doesn't carry M105 but they can order it in for you. $85-$100 is quite expensive but it comes in a big bottle.
If it's close to you, you should try MotorActive in Silverwater - they are the Australian importers of Meguiars and are usually a bit cheaper than Autobarn or Supercheap.

As for the $30 DA - I wouldn't waste my money. They don't do any real defect correction. MotorActive can also hook you up with a Meguiars G220 DA if you're serious. Or if you can wait a few more months, you can be one of the first in Australia to have a G220 V2!!

Re: Ultimate Compound to remove tree sap or bird droppings

I agree, just be very careful of this $30 machine. If you can afford the G220 then go for it. The machine will be your ultimate car detailing friend hehe. I know of the main distributor in Aus for Meguiars (I call them all the time lol) but was unaware of buying the products as a consumer point of view, thats handy to know. I thought they may have only been distributors to businesses.

As i explained in my last message to you there are a couple machines out there, it's just a matter of choosing the right one. If you're picking up the G220 or the v2 very soon, be sure to get yourself the W7207 cutting pad and use with either the ScratchX 2.0, the Ultimate Compound or the M105 (In order of abrasives) which ever one you may have. I'm sure that wherever you buy any machine, the person on the other end will know this for you too. If you have the Ultimate Compound still, you would be amazed of what this will do being applied by the DA compared to hand application too! Give it a whirl

Well if you think about it $300.00 ish for a G220 DA it not that expensive if I consider how much it cost to get a professional to do a proper job.

Re: Ultimate Compound to remove tree sap or bird droppings

Well it will cost a little to get yourself up and running. BUT i can't quote exactly the source but i have heard of reputable mobile detailers quoting from roughly $200+ for a standard buff with machine right up to around $500 or so for the full works like clay, cut, polish, wax etc. So the way i like to see it personally is to have the products there yourself to use, do it yourself and you may appreciate the job more, you can tell your friends/mates that you did it all by yourself, and you have got the machine to use again and again and again etc. (Depending on how confident you feel.) But whatever way you choose that's entirely up to you my friend. Goodluck and keep us posted on your future details on cars! Remember it all comes down to having the right product, technique and the right tools for the job. Check out a few of the video's from the Meguair's video threads on the DA machines. They are very easy and simple to use, pretty much swirl and burn free too!

Wow, is that how much they are now?

I got mine for $250ish with 2 pads a couple of years ago.

Best thing I ever did. I've polished out countless swirls and kept my car looking always immaculate - and that's no mean feat for a black dd!

Not really. You wont get it for less than $250 here, but let us know if you find out otherwise!

                        Have you tried ebay?

No, ebay.au. The Aussie ones are obviously 240V as well.

...And they'll have the right AC plug too!
