  • 64 Bel Air-Taillight Makeover

I wanted to give an update on my Bel Air restoration. This week, was the taillights (you will see there are only three-last one broke in hand).

    Before:

Doesn't look too bad on the outside, but . . .

The emblem wasn't too bad, either (of course, everything on the outside's already been polished "a million times" (according to my wife)!

Using a small bottle brush and Meguiar's Ultimate Compound, I was able to make them look like this . . .

There has been much discussion in the discussion boards about how much product it takes in order to wax different parts of the car. This is how much NXT2 I used for each taillight . . .

    The final results . . .

You would not know where I might be able to find another taillight lense like these? These are VERY VERY hard to find!

Try Year One. I have bought parts from them and I was happy with what they sent me.

The lens is for an Impala.... are they interchangeable?

I have looked at several different suppliers, and they all say that these do not exist. The impala and the Belair do not always interchange, the impala as wings on the outside, where if you notice these do not. The new ones, they call bowties, because the chevy emblem is on the lens. For a couple, that originally owned the car, did not what anything extravagant, sure did make parts for this car hard to find!

Thanks for taking the time to view this thread! Had a minor setback. The kid that was going to paint the car, for his body class project, backed out. So I will have to find someone else.

Nice Work, thanks for sharing! I love the 1964 Chevy, growing up my dad had a 4-door Bel Air with a 327 in it. That car was both gorgeous and bullet proof. I had dreams of driving it to high school, but unfortunately dad sold it before I had the chance...

This is exactly the kind of stuff that makes all of us detailers, the details! Spending time restoring, cleaning, and polishing even the smallest parts on our cars is what makes it all worth while. Great work!
