  • How to remove tar from non-painted plastic trim?

    As in the subject.

I haven't tried GC BT Remover though, as I red somewhere in this forum, GC BT Remover will leave white stains when used on plastic trim.

    Thanks!

    Have you tried a degreaser?

You could look at clay, APC, a degreaser, Bug and Tar Remover, Dawn.....

Clay bar would be my least f option. The trim is located ar bottom side of the body. The clay will pickup so many dirt that I have to trash after using it.

Is a degreaser mean an engine degreaser? Is it safe on plastic?

Still looking for inputs, making sure I dont mess with the trim.

        thanks.

Sometimes i use liquid paraffin,it kinds of melts the tar away no rubbing is required. But i think that a specially ment product would be better.

I've never had APC stain my wheelwells or anything, or Bug and Tar stain anything, so I wouldnt be too worried. Dont leave it sit for an hour of course.

And you can always do a small, out of the way test spot first.

              Hi CA 999

WD40 will remove the tar in a flash. Use a paper towel to remove the residue and then wash the area to get rid of any film and the WD40 smell.

Try it ... it will work.

              Have a good evening.

More a citrus-type or Dawn degreaser as opposed to an engine degreaser, but try the wd40... sounds like it may be an easy solution.

                  How about #M39 or #M40?

Can both use to clean tar on plastic?

                  thanks.

What kind of car is this on? Tarminator or body solvent should be fine for non-painted plastic.

It is a Suzuki SX4. Got black plastic trim on underside all over the body.

Thanks for the input guys. I think I'll try the WD40.
