  • Is this weird or what?

I was at advance today and saw some NXT 1.0 paste (just one!).
I wanted to buy it just to post in the blast from the past.

    Should I?

I would say it's not worth it. I have a bottle of the old NXT V1 with 90% left and I never touch it.

Maybe a customer misplaced one somewhere within the store, and somehow the product is discovered very recently. It is not rare that an item is listed as being in stock within a store, but none could be found on the shelf or in the storage. The item is simply misplaced somewhere hard to find within the store.

There's an O'Reilly near me that still carries NXT 1.0. I don't know why.

I gave my dad my NXT 1.0 and he thought it was the best thing since sliced bread since he was used to Turtle Wax.

In fact, prior to him trying it, we nearly got into an argument as he was telling me how he used Turtle Wax for 25 years and it worked fine, all these new products are just a waste of money.

...and then he tried it. He was raving about how easily it went on and off compared to Turtle Wax. He just never thought there could be so much difference... (I made sure not to tell him about my M21 2.0 stash)

I remember a couple of years ago. I was in the local Wally World, to pick up some wax. Noticed a tin of wax with some product on the outside of the tin. Picked it up the tin was light. Popped it open and the tin was half empty. Told clerk and he did not want to be bothered.

The reason I was typing this is: I wonder if someone returned a used tin of NXT 1.0 and replaced it with a tin of NXT2.0.

Some stores just don't move as much product as others, and several were putting NXT 2.0 on the shelf next to the original. We would get phone calls from people trying to decide which to buy!

Every now and then someone calls us to say they just bought one of our products and they have a question about it, have a rave for it, etc. and it turns out to be something we haven't made in years. A local store just happened to still have some of it.

Like the woman who called a couple of months ago asking if it were true that we stopped making M16 Professional Paste Wax. When told that yes, sadly, it's true, she commented on how she just might run back into the store and buy the entire shelf full that she just found! If memory serves, this was in or near Anchorage, Alaska so unless you're planning a serious road trip, well.............

Ah yes, M16. I lost my tin and cant find it anywhere. I'm contemplating on ordering one from that canadian website lol.

Don't know if you would know, but are there at least any plans to make a new product that would be VOC compliant but works as good as M16?

I've been using Collinite 476s and I really don't like it compared to M16. M16 seemed to be easier for me to use for some reason. I remember It spreading much easier.

Re: Is this weird or what?

Every now and then we make what are known as "running changes" to a product. These are usually very minor tweaks sometimes due to slight changes in regulations, or they could be a fairly significant change if technology advances in some way - think ScratchX and ScratchX 2.0; we consider this a running change because the part number has not changed even though the name has been slightly altered and the formulation significantly upgraded.

M16 fell into a situation where the change in regulations would have forced us to change the product so significantly that it just wouldn't have been right to call it M16 any longer. It just didn't make sense to keep the name but with a noticeably degraded product. We can't think of a single M16 fan who would have been happy with that. Can you?

I still use it and one coat lasted me 5-6 month in winter.

I say go for it. In 20 to 30 years it may well be worth what you paid for it. I've also got my eye on some prime Florida real estate with a water view that you might be interested in...

I work in an auto parts store and we still have a few cans and bottles of the original NTX products.
It just doesn’t move that fast plus a lot of people just don’t want to pay $10-$20 for a can or bottle wax.
Also sometimes when the shelf is restocked the old stuff is just pushed to the back.

I was at a local auto parts store (Benson Auto Parts, Cornwall, Ontario) and saw a bunch of NXT stuff with old packaging on it - Glass Cleaner, Insane Shine Tire Dressing, Tech Wax 1.0. So glad those labels have been replaced because man those were UGLY! Props to the graphic designer for the new NXT labels that look so much better.

What?! The old packaging was awesome. Flashy and very eye catching.

The old packaging appealed well to the youth.
