Well. Shortly after car came out of storage that year it quit running. Shortly after I bought a house and now I'm just finally getting around to the car again. The car now has greasy/oily marks on paint from working on getting it running again. I washed with dawn dish soap. Marks still there. Wish fully hoping buffing removes a lot of it

Would I be safe to use m105/m205 on car or would that be too harsh. Need as much correction as possible but don't wanna risk taking off too much paint.

Bringing this thread back from the dead AGAIN we see!!! That means you've still got interest in working on this old Dodge, which we think is just awesome.

But, even as time has moved on since the last discussions on this car, the processes we recommend have not. Well, mostly not.

Obviously a thorough decontamination is called for here so we would go with something like this:

        • Wash thoroughly
        • Decontaminate with IronX (available through your typical online detailing supply places)
          • If you're not familiar with IronX, it's an incredibly horrible smelling pH neutral product that reacts with iron deposits and strips them off the surface. The old Dodge will turn purple as this stuff reacts but it will rinse away pretty easily. Wash the car, rinse it off, then spray down a couple panels at a time with IronX (wear gloves and a mask when doing this - like we said, the smell is pretty nasty but it is pH neutral)

        • Clay - most likely still with our C2000 blue medium clay
        • Machine polish to enhance gloss
          • This is where you've got the most leeway in your decision, and it's all based on what your expectations are

First off, put that whole notion of getting "this car looking a LOT closer to 100% than it is now" You're just not going to get very close to 100%. Period. But that's OK. In fact, it's more than OK..... for this car it's actually pretty cool. The interior looks well worn without being so beat up that it's a horrible place to be, so the paint should reflect that (no pun intended) on the outside of the car, too. So she's got some age to here, big deal. Let her age gracefully.

The work you did by hand using UC made a huge improvement in gloss and reflectivity but it's not going to do much of anything for the cracking and deeper fissures in the paint. As has been established in previous discussions, that will only be improved by stripping and repainting. But if you use a DA buffer and microfiber pads with D300 you should make a massive improvement in gloss and get some real reflections here, in pretty short order. Skip the M105 on this car; the paint is likely so dried out that M105 will fight you the whole way - dusting at the least, gumming up on you at the worst. The DA Microfiber System will do wonders for the overall appearance here, especially when it comes to overall clarity. That single stage white paint is most likely going to be rock hard, maybe even like granite encrusted in diamonds. That means you may not be removing a lot of the scratches and heavier defects, but that's part of what it means to freshen up an older car, even if the paint is NOT original. Again, let her age gracefully if you don't have the resources (or desire) to do a full restoration.

Ok. All I have is the foam 2.0 pads. Haven't even had a chance to play with the new microfiber system. That being said I also do not have any ironx available to me. So should I go as process

          Wash
          Clay
          UC on yellow
          UP on black
M07 by....hand? Machine? (First time using it)
          M21/UW as lsp?

I'm gonna be busting into this car tomorrow so aside from what's avail at my walmart/parts store I will be using previously said products. Not positive on process as I'm not sure where m07 falls into place here. Someone please let me know where to add m07 into the mix.

I also found that I've got some machine glaze #3 on Y shelf. It sounds like it's a pure polish as well. Would 3 work well in my situation and if so where should it go in the process.
