  • Clear coat problem

A friend recently bought a used pickup truck, and the fiberglass lid for the bed looks like the clearcoat is starting to crack in little snowflake looking pieces:

Is there any Meguiar's product that can save (or prevent) this from happening? Is the best action to sand down the clearcoat and respray some urethane clearcoat? What causes this in the first place?

    Hey,

Sorry to say, but that appears to be clear coat failure. Nothing short of a repaint will help this situation. Sorry.

Nothing will save it, and about the only thing to help prevent it is quality products used by a good painter.

You can prolong the life of any clear coat with the proper application of Meguiar's products. But once it starts to fail like your picture, then it's time to sand it down and have it recoated...
