Happy Monday my fellow Meg friends. I am going to be purchasing a DA tomorrow, and i have never used one before. I plan on doing a lot of detailing this summer as its the only thing i like to do when not working at my 9-5. I plan on taking my detailing to another level someday down the road, and was wondering if its a good idea to start out with a DA rather than a rotary. I know the results might not be the same, and i've also seen the give or take 2 millions posts about the DA. I just want to be the best i can at what i do any any steps towards bettering myself with product knowledge would be great! So can i get a straight answer on this DA.

Yes.

And even with a rotary in the future, you will still want and need a DA around.

im not sure yet, i noticed autogeeks has some good deals on the PC DA.

Get a G110 over a PC any day and some here prefer the Flex DA over both, on account of the increased power.

I use a G110 and like the power but could see where a Flex might come in handy. To me, the PC is just not good enough especially if you are using 6.5" pads and bigger.

Can always check ADS as well.

Point being that you are getting something good, not one of the Craftsman, or Pepboys, Walmart, etc buffers that wont help you.

For me after all the researching i have done on the debate between a rotary and a DA i went for a Da. I think the rotary has to much of a learning curve for a begginer , (like myself) . The DA are great i bought myself a PC 7424 and it works great!

The Da works great! If your not in a hurry...it's pretty much foolproof! Best detailing money I ever spent.

ive had alot of da polishers and rotary. but my Cyclo is what i pick over everything. with the right pad there isnt much you cant accomplish with it. its pricey. but its also something that is bulletproof and completely rebuildable. hope this helps

I never used a buffer before - always did everything by hand but decided I wanted a good DA since I don't have the experience for proper know-how and use on a rotary and didn't want to risk ruining the paint on anything I work on since i tend to work on a lot of classic show cars. I bought the Flex 3401 DA in Feb and have used it a fair amount since than, mainly with the M105/M205 combo and a little with #6.
I've really learned to like the Flex - very easy to learn and get use to using. Comfortable to hold and control, and best of all unlike a rotary I wasn't anxious or scared during my learning time with the unit that I was going to burn through the paint on edges or whatever.
I've been using the Flex with the Lake Country CCS foam 6.5" pads and I've also been pretty happy with them also although I'm also considering getting a smaller backing plate and a set of 4" pads for smaller, more cramped areas - right now I'm just hand working those small areas I can't get into with the 6.5" pads.
The results with the Flex have been excellent from the first time even without any experience using a buffer and is BY FAR such a vast improvement over trying to do things by hand.

I know this is the Meguiars forum and they would rather hear that I use their brand of DA and pads rather than the Flex and the LC pads but such is life... at least I'm using their compound/polish/wax/sealant/cleaners/etc products
