Pictures and comments from Meguiar's Roadshow Class at Autogeek's Detail Fest 2009

    Setting up the classroom...

Our victim, err we mean candidate truck

Checking to see if the paint has bonded contaminants by feeling the surface...

Claying the paint using our Smooth Surface Clay Kit

Verifying the swirls using the Cruel Master aka the Brinkman Xenon Swirl Finder Light

We always go over the basics including the correct way to hold an applicator pad and why...

First we tested the polishability of the paint by using the least aggressive product in our demo, SwirlX

First we spread the product out over the area we're going to work and then we start working the
product over the paint putting some passion behind the pad...

Checking our results after one application; while SwirlX did a great job there were still traces of the
deeper swirls, scratches and water drop etchings in the paint so we decided to test out Ultimate Compound.

Showing where to place the product on the pad...

Bringing out the big guns... Ultimate Compound...

Again, spreading the product out over the area we're going to work and then after creating a uniform layer of the
compound over this area we start working the product using a little passion behind the pad...

Checking our results: One application of Ultimate Compound removed more defects faster and more effectively...

After doing the cleaning step, (Step 2 of the 5-Step Paint Care Cycle), we then went over the technique for
applying a pure polish, in this case we used M07 Show Car Glaze. Note that Meguiar's always states that
applying a pure polish after the cleaning step is an optional step, we always include this step in all our
classes to show the proper technique for how to apply a pure polish by hand because it different than how
you apply and work a paint cleaner.

After applying and removing the M07 Show Car Glaze we then applied a thin coat of NXT Tech Wax to go over the
proper technique for applying a finishing wax by hand after the cleaning and polishing steps.

We allowed the wax to dry until it swiped clear, here we're inspecting the results of our Swipe Test

Before wiping the dried wax off the paint we went over proper techniques for using a microfiber including folding your
microfiber 4 ways to give you 8 sides to wipe with but to also provide a thick cushion of cloth to help spread-out the
pressure from your hand. We discussed how to break-open the continuous layer of dried wax and then how to remove
all the wax gently without instilling any marks from bad technique or too much pressure.

After going over the basics, we went over Final Wiping Techniques.

After removing the dried wax we used the Brinkman Swirl Finder to inspect our final results...

We wrapped up the Working by Hand segment and then broke for a delicious catered lunch courtesy of Autogeek.

Before going into the afternoon session on working by machine, we took
a few group shots using the Meguiar's Special Events Truck as a background.

    More to come....

              Nice work Mike!

I'm sure they were all blown away by the amount of knowledge you were able to give to them. They found out what we know.....Mike is an absolute wealth of knowledge on detailing and also an excellent teacher.

Uh.. you mean there's a different way to apply polish, wax, and cleaner by hand? :/

I mean, aside from the pressure applied...
