Red Honda - Extreme Makeover

On Wednesday, October 6th here at our Irvine location, starting at 9:00am Mike Pennington, and myself will be performing an extreme makeover on this red Honda Civic.



While in the above photo the car looks to be in pretty decent shape, upon closer inspection it is easy to see the finish has been neglected. This daily driver is typically parked outside 24 by 7 and as such, the finish is under constant attack from the environment and airborne contaminants. The goal is to restore the interior and exterior to their maximum potential to increase it's resale value.







Engine Detailing - Extreme Makeover
Besides restoring a show car shine to the exterior and cleaning and conditioning the interior, we will also be detailing the engine compartment using cleaning and degreasing products from Meguiar's New Detailer Line.

Yes, we'll be working on it most of the day, starting with the engine compartment, then washing the car, then the interior and last but least the exterior.

Yes, after the last extreme makeover, she volunteered their Honda because they want to sell it, or trade it in and hopefully get top dollar either way.

It's a win/win proposition as I've been looking for an average car for a engine detailing write-up and a car with a neglected finish to show what can be accomplished with ColorX by hand, followed by NXT Tech Wax by hand.

We'll also have a chance to use a variety of products on the interior.

I'm sure you will be doing this any ways, but could you document every stinking detail -- of the detail!

I am itching to see the process of every section of the detail. Process of evaluation for the not only the exterior, but any interior problems, attacking the engine compartment, and what you will do with the wheels.

Could you also please provide vehicle specs.? Year, miles, condition of interior & engine compartment, expected problem areas (beyond those described for the exterior).

Can't wait to see the results and learn some new information! Just wish I could be there to help, and learn hands-on.

Hi HotRodGuy,

The first thing we're going to do is to use our two hands to restore the finish using hand-applied consumer products right off the shelf. The purpose of this is show the majority of enthusiasts in the world how to use the things they already own, (their hands), to get W0W! results.

After washing the car, we will follow exactly what Meguiar's has been teaching for decades about proper procedures. We will follow Meguiar's 5-Step Paint Care Cycle

Step 1 Wash
Step 2 Clean
Step 3 Polish
Step 4 Protect
Step 5 Maintain

After the washing step we will evaluate the finish first with the palm of our clean hands to inspect for above surface defects and second, visually for below surface defects, this will help us to determine the necessary products to remove the defects.

After the cleaning or surface prep procedures, we will then polish with Deep Crystal Polish and then apply NXT Tech Wax and document our results.

After that, if there are still more serious defects in the finish that require a machine applied product from Meguiar's Professional Line, then we go after those defects using Meguiar's philosophy of,

Always use the least aggressive product to get the job done"

This means we will attempt to remove the defects using the G-100 Polisher. If we find out that we still need to get a more aggressive, then we will substitute the rotary buffer.

Our only limitations are time as I have to leave for the airport at approximately 6:30pm

Anyhow, I am really looking forward to seeing the new detailer line of products in action. I have been looking at them trying to decide which ones I might need. This test you are doing should be perfect for showing off the new detailer line products.

Better allow plenty of travel time Mike, it might take three or four minutes to get there
