  • Brake Pads and Rotors Questions.

    Hey guys...

I think there was a thread like this before but for the life of me I can't find it.

Question is, what type of brake pads are you guys running?

We need new ones on the Jeep and I'm going to go ceramic no matter what but I'm wondering what type you guys are using.

    Thanks,

    Ryan

    Here's that old thread:

For the price, Wagner ceramic pads and rotors are fantastic. I've also heard good things about Performance Friction pads.

I have always had good luck with hawk pads and brembo blank rotors, myself and others run that set up on our camaro/ firebirds and they take a good beating, I have also had them on my other daily commuter cars and never had any problems.

Yea I've heard a lot about the Hawk pads and I think thats what I'm going to get.

I can't decide about the rotors though, they are fine I think, just the pads the dealership puts on are horrible.

        Thanks guys!

I am currently using Brembo slotted rotors and Hawk LTS(light truck)pads. I know the buzz with the ceramics is low to no dust, but my Hawk LTS pads are ferro-carbon based pads and produce little to no dust on my 99 F-150. This combo is by far the best set of brakes I ever had. Check out tirerackdotcom they have good prices and you can read all the posted reviews on whatever setup you want to run. Also hawk make a truck specific ceramic pad.

Any reasons for the switch to ceramics? Brake dust?

Lexus offered a free swap of the stock brake pads for ceramics (2 years or 25k) and I did mine and it is such a pleasure compared to the dusting from the stock pads. Although I have no idea what kind they are.

Yes partly because of the dust but also because of the longer life time.

                Thanks guys!!!

For some strange reason my Volvo likes to squeal when I put anything than OEM pads on it...and if anyone has ever seen the OEM Volvo pads, they create an incredible amount of brake dust. Might try another shop in town to see if I can get to the bottom of that issue, ceramics would be mighty nice.

Re: Brake Pads and Rotors Questions.

On my Mustang, I use Hawk HPS pads and Ford rotors (right now anyways). Everything else I use the basic NAPA replacements.

On my Grand Cherokee the brake dust is driving me crazy. Can't wait to replace them with ceramics.

I am running Brembo rotors and pads. They do not create that much brake dust either, which makes cleaning way easy.

HAWK pads are generally really bad on dust. (Friend tried them, they were super bad, and noisy)

The NAPA ceramics are highly recommended on many forums.
