  • Ultimate Compound

Hello Everyone, today i was lucky enough to find Ultimate Compound at Advance Auto Parts, i snatched it right off the shelf along with UQW. So lets get started:

    Vechile: 2004 Black Toyota 4Runner

    Products used:

    - Ultimate Compound
    - Hi tech applicator pad
    - 2 Microfibers
    - Quik Detailer
    - Tape

Background: This truck is our daily driver and gets used and abused. If i am going to a very crowded and compact area where i dont feel comfortable taking my Silverado, I take the 4Runner. This truck gets ued and abused. This truck barely gets washed and when it does it is done by my Dad with a terry cloth and a squeeze of dish soap. If i really wanted to i could bring this truck back to life but it dosent really matter because its a work truck and my parents dont want me wasting my products on this truck. I was anxious to see what UC could do for this truck, oh and its black by the way!

    Ultimate Compound:

    Befores:

Taped a section of the hood just like its done on the front label:

Process: okay so heres what i did. i wiped the test section down with some quik detailer and a microfiber. Then i taped a section off for the test. I did this all by hand too. I worked the product into the finish with moderate pressure for about 50 seconds then i used light pressure for the next 10 seconds.

i used circular motions and straight lines.

    After:

There is still swirls but nothing compared to what it was like before, and take into account it was used by hand with a foam applicator pad using moderate pressure

The Product : Ultimate Compound has a very pleasant smell to it and it is not a strong smelling product. It smelled a little minty with a squirt of Quik Interior Detailer. I was very impressed with Ultimate Compound and how it performed by hand, i can only imagine the results by machine! This product also seemed to finish LSP ready and didnt leave behind its own path of destruction for Swirl X to clean up.

Ultimate Compound is a great product and truly blows traditional rubbing compounds out of the water! This is a product i would always have on hand for when you are working on a car. I apoligize in advance for my poor picture taking skills, but i thought i would share this with you guys if anyone is on the fence about buying this product.

Questions, comments, and concerns are more than welcome

thanks for looking and i hope you enjoyed this little writeup on Ultimate Compound

    Re: Ultimate Compound Review!

Nice write-up! Looks like a couple applications of UC would bring that 4Runner back to life!

Still haven't found UC in my area, but when I do, I'd like to try a M105 / UC comparison with the DA. My dad's old pickup is a prime canidate for some serious defect removal!

Did it get rid of the swirls that were left?
Or did you not see the swirls in the first After Picture.

            Re: Ultimate Compound Review!

In the first after picture the left side was treated with UC and while there were still swirls in the treated area, it was a whole lot better than the right side where it was just a mess and was extreme cobwebbing, UC minimized the swirls a ton, and i worked it in with a foam applicator pad for about a minute and a half with moderate pressure and i only made one pass and then finished it up with the Tech Wax. I wish i had taken better pictures to show you a better before and after. But i took the after pictures before i applied Tech Wax 2.0, that was dumb of me. But the Tech Wax minimized them even more and most likely filled them in

Now you need to get SwirlX to really finish the panels. On my old and abused Sonoma (black) I used UC of all the panels and it finished really well on all the panels. I followed up on the hood and roof with SwirlX to eliminate the spiderwebbing. These are very user friendly products. They work really well with DA's.

                      Re: Ultimate Compound Review!

I would like to share my experience with this product.

My car has a dull shine to the bumpers and mirrors. After reading much praised reviews on Mequiras Ultimate Compound, I thought I'd give it a try.
I followed the instructions to a T. Now my car look even worse! It looks like I took a piece of sandpaper to the paint. My bumper wasnt in that bad of shape before, but after using this crappy product, my bumper looks 10 times worse. Thankfully I used this only on the front bumper and passenger side mirror so as not completely ruin my entire paint job.
Now, mind you, Im no stranger to detailing. So Im not some rank amateur.
Im REALLY disappointed in this product and will advise all the car forums that I belong to NOT to use this product.

So Meguiras you get a big fail from me on the product and will never purchase any product from Mequiras ever again. Wish I could return it for a refund.

                        Interesting first post.

We do apologize for the issue you had with Ultimate Compound, but if you spend any time reading posts on this and other forums, you'll find that your experience was vastly different from what others are finding with it. In fact, it's the product we use in our Saturday Classes to teach people how to remove swirls, fine scratches and other below surface defects. Take a look at any thread in the Pictures from Saturday Classes section of MOL and you'll see a huge variety of vehicles, some with some pretty serious defects, that Ultimate Compound has worked perfectly on.

We have seen issues with very delicate paint where Ultimate Compound is too aggressive. Late model Honda Civics seem to commonly have this very delicate paint, and we know of a 2011 non metallic black Prius that has incredibly delicate paint (it makes regular appearances at our Thursday Night Open Garage sessions).

Actually, you can. Give a call to our Customer Care Center at 800.347.5700 and they'll take care of you. They will ask for proof of purchase, but if you no longer have a receipt a simple photo of the bottle emailed to them will suffice.

OG, you should have come here for help and directions. There has been a few people like Mike was saying that have had some issues with different products. What kind of car is it? Single stage paint? Base/Clear? Im sure if you ask nicely somebody will tell you how to fix your problem at hand. But thats up to you and some of the nice folks around here! Good luck hope it turns out!

UC is a great product and it can tackle most jobs. Recently I picked up a used lawnmower from the swap meet that had spray paint on it (sprayed on thick I might add), and I used UC by hand/foam applicator and PC/4" pads and it came right out after a few passes and left it shiny just like it left the factory brand new.

Thank you very much. I appreciate your concern.

Yes indeed, I did come here and saw how everyone was quite happy with their results. This is what led me to this product. So I was dissapointed when I saw the paint looking worse than when I started. I will see what I can do about getting my shine back and will try this product again. (still have it lol)

yes, maybe I should have come in here 1st, but like I said, Im not a rookie, but no a pro either. My cars have always looked really nice even after many years of owning.

My car has a single stage paint job with no clear coat...go Mazda! lol It was widely known they didnt apply a clear coat on all vivid yellow cars.

here is the original post that got me intersted in this stuff...
this guy only made one pass and it looks awesome.
so I was hoping for the same results. it looks like he used diapers as well. see pics 4 and 6.
[QUOTE=sethro_GT;5378935]Finally uploaded the pics. See the captions above each one.
First pic, There is a tape line, if you look at it from different angles you can see it.

less color makes it easier to see the line. The shiny side was just one application of the ultimate compound.

A wider view of the same above picture, left side polished, right not.

Look at the difference between the right and left side. Picture doesn't show it as well as it looked, HUGE difference.

The next two are the left and right side below the tail lights, notice the difference in reflection of the tail lense.

                              ]

So, I want to thank you all for the help and advice. I was annoyed when this product didnt work as I thought. Maybe I let dry too long or something?...I dunno. But Im willing give it another try for sure.
Perhaps I need a harsher cutting applicator pad? The one I used was just a regular foam applicator.

                              thanks again all!
