  • matte black hood..

    if anyone can tell me the best way to clean the matte finish of my newly purchased 69 mach 1 I would appreciate it...got alot of input but no two suggestions seem to be alike...just want to make sure before proceeding.


    ***sorry guys...i am looking to maintain clean look...car was restored to original and want to keep that way...thanks.

    Wet Sand or Polish it with a real heavy compound on the rotary buffer.

      Err.. But if he want´s to keep it matte (original matte, not clear)..?

        Sure seems a little harsh not knowing what the problem is or what he wants to accomplish..

        Give us a little more info about what youre wanting to correct with your matte finish 69mach1.

          My suggestion to keep the matte finish would be to just wash it with what ever car wash you use to wash the car. To protect it, since it is paint and you just don't want it to shine, I'd try a test spot and use a quick detailer or a spray sealer and see if that keeps the matte finish.

          You might also check in with one of the vintage or muscle car forums and see what other owners do. My 70 Mach 1 Stripe on the hood is gloss black and clear coated. So I am no help with proven methods,
