  • NXT 2.0 is there a "cure" time?

I waxed my car today and left the wax (NXT 2.0) on for about 5 hours. My question is is there a cure time for NXT 2.0? Does it help or hurt or make no difference as to the amount of time the wax sits on the paint once its setup. Is there a benefit to leaving it on longer?

I ask this questions because I have a black S2000 with pretty "soft" paint. I have noticed that when I wax the car I can see the swirls from the application of the wax immediately after I remove it and after a day or so it goes away. I know it sounds a little odd and maybe its just my paraniod eye.

    Thanks.

Some people leave NXT wax on for 30 minutes to ensure it has bonded.
But otherwise just do the swipe test.

      Swipe Test.

You don't HAVE to wait for any curing. But it is always nice to let it sit for a couple minutes. Just use the swipe test....

If you do the swipe test and the wax is dry, you're okay. In a ideal setting you would wait for 24 hours before applying the second coat. But that is not practical all the time.

Meguiars doesn't recommend leaving the wax on a vehicle surface over the time stated on the bottle so I would guess there is no benefit. But, once the product is removed there is a 'cure' time of 24 hours before you want to wash the vehicle or apply a Quik Detailer.

MLC, check out this thread: How long do you leave your wax? The two disadvantages noted about leaving NXT, or perhaps any wax, on too long are possible streaking and accumulation of dust. Also see: OK to leave #66 on overnight? and Leave wax on for a couple of weeks?

            Hope this helps.

Thanks Guys, swipe test it is. Good information on the cure time after you remove the wax.

Keep in mind that as temperatures drop or humidity rises, it will take a bit longer for NXT Tech Wax 2.0 to fully dry. Note this is regarding drying time prior to removal, not cure time between coats. Important distinction.

When working on a dark colored vehicle, if NXT is wiped off before it has fully dried you can sometimes get a bit of light streaking. This usually goes away in a day or so, or can be eliminated with a quick spray of UQD or similar, but you can avoid it by letting the NXT dry fully before removing it. On an 80F day with low humidity (common here in SoCal) NXT will dry very quickly, but on a 65F day with high humidity you may want to give it an hour or more. A lot of people will apply NXT and then go about detailing the interior of the vehicle, dressing the tires and wheel wells, then clean up the garage to the point where all they're left with is a couple of clean microfiber towels and a vehicle coated in NXT. It's usually fully dried by that point and wipe off is a snap.

And don't forget, a thin application is key. We see a lot of people applying NXT much heavier than need be.

Great info! Thanks. I think the one thing I always remember about a thin coat of wax is a quote that I think was from Mike. "When you are applying wax remember you measure coats of wax in microns". I always think of that as I apply wax. I have a small car and I can basically finish the last quarter of the car with just the wax in the pad and a dab here and there.
