Fender Instrument Care Kit

I am ordering the Fender Instrument Care Kit to use on my dining room table. The table has many small swirls/scratches and is hazy looking. I was told by the salesman whom I purchased the Fender Instrument kit from that using the applicator included with the kit did some good on his table but it would have worked better if the swirl and haze remover were applied with a polisher. I was going to use my PC (7424), but the question I have, is which pad should I use to apply the product? I thought about the least aggressive pad first, and then move to a more aggressive pad. I will use an ultimate bonnet to remove the polish.

Use the polishing pad, like our yellow foam polishing pads. Do a little test section and see how it goes.

If you want to be extra careful you could start your test using a finishing pad like our W-9006 or W-9207 and then inspect your results.

Speed setting should be at the 4.0 to 5.0 setting leaning towards the 5.0 setting for removing swirls.

How about a before and after pictures?

Paint is usually thinnest on high points, ridges and edges, so avoid buffing directly on top of any edges, a good habit is to buff up to an edge but not buff directly on top of the edge.

Yes, Meguiars made an instrument care kit for them, though I believe it has been discontinued?

Well, Meguiars made products for Fender, and also some US furniture companies. I gobbled up a few when I heard they were discontinued.

I have a Quick Detailer type product, and also swirl removal product.

i don't know if there is a connection,still with meg's.i use one or two things for my guitars.Dunlop 65 guitar polish or d'addario(can't remember the no.)both are very good.About 20Years ago,Gibson did a guitar wax in a black bottle,but it was really horrible and tough to work with and the results weren't great either. I reckon quik detailer probably would have the same result as the dunlop 65,but there's no need to try,there's no cost saving and i can get the dunlop stuff easy.Infact,i can get the dunlop easier than the quik detailer????

i polished up my home made strat with scratch-x...worked great. I do plan on giving it another once over with a cleaner wax and polish, then the final waxing and buff.

glad to know scratchland,about the scratchx working on your strat finish.I've got a 1980 gibson spirit(you don't see many around) made in the Tennesee factory.I had to buff and buff to get a couple of scratches out.The laquer is getting a bit cracked on the sides here and there,but that's part of the character of the guitar to me.

you said a home made strat.is it a combo of diff.strats or is it actually cut by you and put together?

well to be completely honest...I guess its home built, not homemade. Its a Strat clone made by a company called Saga. It comes with everything you need and most parts are ready to go together, however extra sanding and cutting your headstock shape are optional. I have been very happy with it so far...but then again I have never owned a factory made electric guitar. But it taught me alot on the workings of a guitar,and painting,polishing,customizing,etc was a nice experience.

Nice to see you assembled your own strat!coool! unique sound? I was always a die hard stratman and is the most popular guitar in the world. I must admit though,I love Les Pauls.I prefer the construction methods as opposed to Fender inc. One important thing here though, A strat has a sound which is very difficult to replicate on other guitars and is therefore unique.

Maybe you could start up a thread for fellow musicians in the 'break room'.

hey man I know I love the strat history and the shape. A Les Paul is next and on the list of things to build!!! I will make a thread and post my experiences and build pictures plus some links of projects...

Hi SL, i'll look forward to seeing the pics! I'll get mine done too,i'm just a bit busy at the mo.

If you're really into this,you should go and train to be an instrument builder.I had a friend that does this.I can't remeber the link. Just type in Moon Guitars.His stuff is excellent.great acoustics aswell.He builds everything,Banjo's,violins,mandolins,...you name it,but he specialises in guitars.I used to go to him every six months to get my frets stoned.
