  • Scratches. Build up the clear coat, then polish it out?

if you're always polishing out scratches, you will eventually take out the clear coat:

I'm wondering if anyone has tried to spray on clear coat from a rattle can, and then buffing it out so that you fill in the scratch, rather than taking away the clear coat:

    Welcome to MOL,

Just an FYI the "Hot Topics" section is for moderators to post or move topics into only. Please put your questions in the Detailing 101 section in the future.

    Thanks!

      Yes.

The idea is to change the things you're doing to the car that puts the scratches in so you don't have to keep polishing them out. If you can't change the things you're doing that are putting the scratches in then maybe accept that the car will always have swirls and just learn to live with them. You can still clean, polish and wax the paint and it will look clear and shiny and in most cases it will still look better than all the other cars in any given parking lot.

In most cases you're going to run into surface adhesion problems, that is the paint is going to lift and flake off sooner or later at least in some places.

There is no 'easy' solution. Clear coat paints are thin, they scratch easily.

      Kind of how it goes...
