  • Remove Scratch on the driver door

    Hi all,

I own 2008 G35x-S, and I have this scratch on the Driver's Side door.
How do I proceed to remove the scratch.

Re: Remove Scratch on the driver door

Read this first to make sure you understand what it means to remove a scratch out of anything including your car's paint.

What it means to remove a scratch out of anything...

Then read this and even though it talks about removing the etching left by a bird dropping know that the same principals apply and at this time the M105 is the most effective way to remover a defect like a scratch out of an automotive paint.

You can also use ScratchX but the current version is pretty gentle and for removing RIDS, that is for removing Random Isolated Deeper Scratches it will usually require multiple applications and a little passion behind the pad. ScratchX can be found at any auto parts store, in order to get M105 you'll need to locate a PBE store or order it online.

Keep in mind that some scratches are to deep to remove safely, by this we mean that if you were to completely remove the scratch it could mean you'll have to remove all the clear layer of paint and if you do this you'll expose the color coat and it's going to look worse as the color coat isn't glossy so you'll have a dull patch.

"Sometimes your better off to improve a scratch than to try to completely remove a scratch"

Often times you can improve a scratch to the point that you can't see if easily or at least it won't bother you.

Besides polishing out a scratch you can apply touch-up paint or have the area repainted, neither are usually great options for most people.

    Hope this helps...

Also just to note, if you're new to detailing, the above three linked threads posted above can be found in either our Hot Topics forum group or our How To Articles forum group and there's plenty more good reading in those two groups.

We keep the links to these two groups on the forum homepage to make them easy for people to locate and I've copied and pasted them below...
