  • Still stuck-on dirt after wash

What's the safest way to remove stuck-on dirt after a car wash? I usually wash my car once a week and I'd have a little bit of this dirt and I'd use Last Touch or my fingernail to get it off but this time because the way life worked, I was unable to wash the car for around 2 weeks. Now, I have a lot more of this "stuck-on" dirt on my paint. I use the least aggressive wash method (I only go over each body panel once) so I didn't "scrub" it off, plus I couldn't even see it when the car was wet.

I've heard that ScratchX could be used to remove this stuff or I could fingernail it off. Last Touch won't get it off. Would this be a good use for Body Solvent? Whatever I do, I just want it to be safe so that when I do it over and over and over after each wash, it's not harming my paint.

    Thanks!

I'd say go ahead with the ScratchX

What kind of "dirt" is it? Little black specs or actual dirt on it.

Perhaps clay might work? Some of you professionals chime in

as mentioned previously, clay would be a good way to go, just make sure you re-apply your wax/sealant afterward due to the clay removing your previous protection.

Yeah, if it isn't coming off when washing it, sounds like a claying is in good order.

If you were to wash the panel twice, would it come off? Sounds like it is on pretty good though.

Try washing it again. If the dirt is still present, then I would break out the clay bar. Then just rewax the vehicle and your car will look great.

If you don't have time to follow the 5 steps care cycle. you can skip cleaning step or/and polishing step. Those 3 steps will make removing any remaining dirt after washing using quick detailer with MF towel much easier.

Of course following the 5 steps would be great for taking care of your car.

                      Hi Todd,

Are you sure it's dirt? It could be sap that has bonded to the paint. The trees where I work seem to endlessly mist sap and I end up needing to clay my car at least once a month.

Alright I've taken photos so that we can find out what it is. Maybe it is sap from the air but I NEVER park under trees.

                          Looks like paint to me?

A clay bar should grab something like that off the paint.

Usually if u wax a car about every three months dirt, pollen, bird droppings etc. seem to come off easier in the wash. I'd recommend the 3 step wax after u use a clay bar kit and continuous use of the wax for easier weekly washes.
