I use a all purpose cleaner or degreaser like All Purpose Cleaner (APC) or Super Degreaser. Spray the product on and scrub for a few minutes, wash off then let dry thoroughly before dressing.

i tried for the first time a pressure washer to clean the wheels. worked pretty well getting the grime and scuff marks off the tires. washed them afterwards w/ meg's soap and water using a sponge.
I have been using Eagle One's all wheel and tire cleaner. I like it because I can do the tires and wheels in one shot. It works very well IMO. Can APC be used on wheels also?
APC + "tire brush" I purchased from walmart or fred meyer. Its basically a rounded triangle with a concave center. It wraps around nicely and fits in the hand alright. Bristles are fairly rough, and not safe for the wheel itself. I typically follow up with my softer wheel brush (typically soft brush, 1 foot handle) and grab right behind the head holding the bristles with my finger tips (they're to soft for rubber scrubbing with any sort of pressure). Tight fast circles once around polishes the tires off (using soap and water and APC if needed) leaving it ready for more dressing.
I use it at 10:1 right now. I will admit occasionally I have to do the tires twice if I cleaning them after using Endurance tire gel. But otherwise no problems.
