Great session yesterday and a big "thank you" to everyone who dedicated the better part of their Saturday to come down and be part of this experience.

Thank you as well to the Mikes, Darren, and Meguiars. I found the class to be very informative and a good introduction to advanced defect removal. The class room section while slightly overwhelming provided a wealth of information. I thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity to try out Meguiars sanding paper as well as 105. Additionally, seeing your different approaches to polishing tough sections of the car with the rotary buffer was very educational.

Thank you for a great presentation and learning session. You guys really did a great job of showing us what sound knowledge is all about. We were lucky to have had professionals like yourselves teach us.

Pictures!!

Mike Pennington gives "ol' Blue" the initial wipe down:


Time to inspect the surface. Take a close look. Closer......yeah, that's it!


Before wet sanding it's a good idea to check paint thickness:


Here we have paint that can only be described as "sliced deli thin". 2.87 mils? Are you kidding me? How 'bout we just skip the trunk, ok?


Proper technique is critical when hand sanding, and Mike shows us how:


DA sanding goes a bit quicker but technique is still important:


Each group is supplied with a cart loaded for the task at hand:


Darin demonstrates hand sanding on a panel with a curve or two:


This is wet sanding, not the hand jive - get with the program!:


Concentration is key (and it makes you look like a pro!):


Proper control of the rotary is important, and Darren says you can do it all with one thumb. No, really.


Compound curves and narrow areas with a rotary? Sure, and Mike shows how:


Poor "ol' Blue" was wetsanded to death and looks a bit haggard here:


But a mix of M105/wool, some M80/foam and a bunch of new found skill restored "ol' Blue" to a beautiful shine!




I'll see about maybe adding another picture or three in a day or so.

Man! I gotta tell you, I am so impressed with Meguiar's. Offering us these classes and Open Garages and providing us with such expert trainers. IMHO it just puts them in a class head and shoulders above the rest.

I'm even more excited about the 101 class coming up than I was before. I'm holding off using my new G110 until after I've got some training on how to use it properly. I can't wait.

This class was INVALUABLE to me. Darren, Mike Stoop, and Mike Pennington, my thanks go out to all of you for your help and answering a bunch of what seemed like silly questions for technique. I was VERY worried that I'd burn through the paint (and after seeing some of the paint on that car, ranging anywhere from 11.0 all the way down to 2.87 mils, I think there was some major worry there!) the three of you helped to instill that the rotary is a very useful tool in the right hands.

I am going to go practice on my old '74 Vette now with these tips (and don't worry, the paint is peeling on it in various areas from an old Maaco/Earl Scheib "Scuff-n-Spray" special, and due for a repaint in the near future) and will practice diligently to see what technique I can come up with. That'll be a challenge for sure, working with some really wierd curves, but it'll be good practice.

Thank you again for providing this wonderful class, and I HIGHLY recommend it to anyone who wants to attempt rotary work.

BTW, Mike...Great car for us to work with...I wish you'd gotten some pics before we started the rotary work...That car had HORRIBLE scratches from an automatic car washer. When we were done, that car looked almost brand new.
