  • 2004 Corvette Z06 DETAIL (Black)

This weekend I had a bit of work in store for me. My brother just purchased a 2004 black Z06 Beauty. This car had recently been polished and I am almost certain it wasn't waxed. There were visible holograms/buffer trails and swirls. After seeing this I was hesitant to try and remove as close to 100% of the swirls as possible. My paint thickness gauge will not register on the Corvette body so I didn't want to risk burning through the paint.

    Process
    - Washed with NXT
    - No clay was required
    - #105 with WWHC7
    - #80 on Rotary with W-8006 until I had to switch to the G110 due to Rotary cord malfunction
    - finished off with the G-110 and D151
    - All season dressing on tires
    - HD on engine and wheel wheels
    Time: 13 hrs. 40min

Here are some befores ( I was going to remove the wheels to thoroughly clean but my jack was too high and I didn't have any 2x4's to help elevate the car a bit. That's why I had the lug nut wrench ready in the background)

The trunk area was pretty dirty

Driver side door handle had scratches that were later removed with #105

    Door jamb needed improvement

Wax/compound was visible in cracks, rubber and lenses

Removed with some Last touch and a brush

Here you can see more residue

    After

    Before

After (what appears to be white on the lens letters is the reflection of the flash)

    Buffer trails visible

Test spot. First pass using 105 and W-8006 pad

    My sidekick & I Day 2

The hood area with visible swirls. I didn't take an after pic because my rotary cord will now need to be replaced yet again for the 2nd time. I had to finish off with the G110. I was so bummed out because I wanted to finish off the whole car with the rotary.

This is after the 2nd wash to remove all the dust I got with 105

I used #40 on the cowl

    Engine After

    Door Jamb after

    Leather seats cleaned and conditioned

    And she's finally all done

I wanted to take more after pics but I was in a bit of a rush to get her out since my brother was picking her up that I completely forgot to. I will be going over the car once I get my rotary up & running again. I just feel I can get a more wet look with it. I think it's time for a back up rotary since this is the second time this happens to me.

Very nice, love the C5's. When you work with fiberglass do you do anything differently?

          Great work.

I don't know what it is, but your 'effort & enjoyment' comes through obviously in the way you post...

I suppose the intention to remove wheels, the desire to finish out 100% rotary, your documentation of the detail through words and pics...
And the excitement causing you to forget some shots.

          Was it an all-day deal?

You've got the detail-bug, no doubt. BRAVO!

What did you use to clean and condition the leather?

                  Nice job Jesse!

Corvette paint can certainly be a challenge....very hard but scratches easily. Getting the final perfect shine is not so easy. Even M80 with a buffing pad will leave a slight haze under the Brinkman. Looks like you did a great job.

Love to see another Corvette restored to a great shine!

Jesse, the vette looks outstanding. You made it look better then new. Nice and reflective. Way to go. The interior looks great. Bet your brother was thrilled.
