  • how do you remove paint overspray?

I detailed a car today that had massive overspray...all over, the car feels like sand paper. I used a 8006 pad with M83 and it helps, but it takes 6-8 passes....should i just use M105 and do it by hand?

    Detailing Clay...

Try to find a place that has the Smooth Surface Clay Kit and use that.

For that much overspray, you should probably use an aggressive clay. There will be significant marring afterward, so it would help to know how to use a rotary buffer to clean everything up.

Not a good idea. As always...use the LEAST aggressive product first and see where it gets you.

Just curious, have you used the aggressive clay? If so, which one? I find that using the C-2100 leaves light marring depending on how much force is used.

Ryan is correct; use the least aggressive method first. Without knowing the severity of the condition, it's never a good idea to use something aggressive when something light will do the job.

Before I recently obtained some aggressive clay, I used the Smooth Surface and Quik Clay kits. Depending on the overspray, they will remove the mild to moderate stuff.

The next step would be to use the aggressive clay. If that doesn't work, the next step is to wet sand the paint. This is the last thing you want to do and will require a rotary to remove the marks.

So, hopefully you're listening and maybe taking notes.

                  Is this a customer's car?
How did it get the overspray all over it?
Do you know what kind of paint the overspray is?

Have you been able to remove the overspray in any way, shape or form?

yes it's a customer's car....he had the car repainted about 2 months ago.

the overspray is horrendous! it's all over the hood, rear spoiler and trunk (i removed the spoiler and was able to remove quiet a bit of the overspray), but it's VERY heavy on the roof of the car. for some reason there's even overspray INSIDE the driver side glass window....it's nuts....

no idea what kinda paint was used..... i was able to remove some overspray with about 4-6 passes of M83 + DA + 8006 pad...but other than that, nothing. it seems like it's coming off, but WAY too much work and i don't want to do too much cutting? i bought some M105 today...since i don't have a rotary, i was gonna try and do it by hand....
