  • 1986 Mustang GT

My wife picked up this 1986 Mustang GT convertible from a friend of ours as a "project." It's been stored outside with the back window broken out for a while, so needless to say it's absolutely filthy inside. We actually had to remove a mother cat and her kittens who were living in the back seat!

This is going to be a weeklong project, so I'll add pictures after I complete work. The paint is badly oxidized single stage.

First up - the front seats.

I used a LGM extractor, Folex, and Meguiar's Quick Out carpet cleaner.

    Driver Seat Befores:

    Driver Seat Afters

    Passenger Seat Befores:

    50/50

    Passenger Seat Afters:

Before/After (Left seat cleaned, right seat dirty)

Next up: Rear seat and carpet....stay tuned

Looks like that is going to be a great project. The seats look better. Can't wait to see the rest of your progress. Good luck.

              Re: 1986 Mustang GT

Thanks guys, I think I got my hands full on this one More than anything I am anxious to work on the single stage oxidized paint, just for the experience.

I'll probably end up doing the rustoleum paint job but for now I'm curious to see how much I can improve it.

Good luck on the project. I had a friend back in the 70's who used a roller to repaint his car. Another friend of ours dad was a magician with the rotary. Between the 2 of them it looked like the most expensive paint job available back then. Once again good luck.

Thanks! It'll be an experience that's for sure. Should be fun though. Hopefully I'll get as good results as your friends did

Make sure you get some good before shots of that top before you do any "Test Spots', that is if it can be fixed.

Looks like a car that will test your skills...

I just love these kind of projects and opportunities, where you can feel free to practice, experiment and gain valuable experience. Will be great to see if you can refine the Rustoleum paint experience and use Meg's products to produce an amazing result with roller and buffer. Please document for us! Wish I could be there to lend a hand!
                              Good Luck
