Should I wash with dish washing liquid before waxing.

About 2 months ago I washed my Gray 2004 Rodeo with dish washing liquid to remove the old wax I had put on about 2 more months before that which was NXT WAX . After I washed the car I clayed and waxed with NXT 2.0 , I had run out of the regular NXT. I was really satisfied with the results I did the same to my brother in law's Blue Mazda 6 and his jaw just fell and started drooling with his results . That's why I decided to purchased the DC PAINT CLEANER and the DC POLISH to step it up a notch this weekend on my Rodeo and I know I wont be disappointed with Meg's . Now my question is should I wash my or any body else's vehicle with dish washing liquid to remove old wax before doing the 5 step system ? This will be the first time I use the DC PAINT CLEANER & DC POLISH maybe someone can give me some advise on what or what not to do .

I see no use in using a degreaser such as dawn on paint. Claying and DC#1 will remove anything on the surface of the paint.

I agree with '04... Also if you look on Procter and Gambles web site in their FAQ section they don't recommend the use of Dawn on a vehicle surface. That said DC#1 is an excellent option for removing wax.

    This is correct.

Think about it, DC1 is a "Paint Cleaner", it can remove stains, oxidation, built up road grime and light swirls and scratches, therefore it will remove any microscopic layer of previously applied wax.

Unlike a detergent soap which is not formulated to make paint glossy and shiny, our paint cleaner will clean paint and in most cases leave it clear and shiny, a perfect surface for the next step, polishing.

Each step of the Meguiar's system tends to take the paint to a better and better looking finish. It's called working forward in the goal of a show car shine. Washing with a detergent soap which will tend and trend to dull paint is working backwards. Meguiar's always teaches people to work forwards towards the goal.

    Pocho69pr,

I'm certainly NO expert like the pro's here, but if you think about it intuitively, I think the only conclusion is "no" to dish detergent. Anything I use to strip burnt food off of a pan is NOT touching my car.

I'm pretty new to this board and I have seen the "dawn question" come up about 12 million times. Just goes to show that the zealotry behind a certain product and its myths.

In any event, my cars ONLY see Meg's NXT was or the Gold Class for washing. If I need to remove anything I use the Paint Cleaner (DC1).

It's so hard to undo bad information that gets repeated over and over again on other forums...

    p.s.

    13 million times for us!

Dawn is great for washing hamburger grease out of a frying pan but overkill for washing your car when better alternatives are available.

We should make a small quiz. You cannot post questions until you know the basics (such as dish soap is not OK to use on a car), to save from repetition of these types of questions.

Nothing against the OP, just a thought.
