  • Been playing around with scratch repair....

Lately, I've been playing around with some scratch repair. Using touch up paint to fill in scratches, wet sanding, etc...

    Here is my latest victim

Wow. That looks great. Any pictures of the process along the way, or could you write up a step by step outline of specifically what you did, what you used, etc?

No, no pictures along the way. I forget too much

Basically, clean the area out with alcohol.
Apply a coat of touch up paint(the kind from the dealer with the little brush).
Keep applying coat after coat until the touched up area is higher(thicker) than the paint on the car. This took about 4-5 coats before I could see it being thicker than the factory paint on the door.
Next, I wet (feather)sanded with 2000 UniGrit paper to get everything flush and level.

Buff with M105 on a wool pad

These scratches on this car took about 3 hours to repair. Mainly because of how many there were. There are 2 major chips in the paint(which you can see plain as day), but all of those little scratches had to be filled in also. And also, look at the door's edge, there were several chips there also.

Amazing. I would like to try that on a couple pesky rock chips on the wife's car. One question though. Is that ss paint or b/c?

I never would of guessed that was touch up paint especially on bc/cc. Very nice work.

                    Looks Great!

How long did you let the touch up paint cure before you started sanding and buffing it out?

Looks awesome. Can't even see where the scratches were to begin with!

That is amazing....definitely something I want to work on.

I am also curious how long you wait for the paint to cure until you move onto the wetsand/polish stage.

That is a outstanding job. There is no way to tell that it was touched up. Way to go.
