  • Fixing light scratch on windshield.

    New guy here.

Using a old ice scraper, I made some light scratches on the windshield that are only visible in certain lighting/angles.

Two products he's been looking at are:

    http://www.eastwoodco.com/jump.jsp?itemID=2010&itemType=PRODUCT

    http://www.autogeek.net/glass-repair-kit.html

They first site says that using a rotary polisher such a porter-cable 7424 would be good for cleaning up the scratch but he would still need an orbital buffer/drill attachment. This would be using their Glass Polishing Kit Pro.

The second site says the porter-cable 7424 would be fine with the kit. I'm thinking I would still need a orbital polisher/drill in order to do this right.

I've already read someone posting on this site that the eastwood stuff is not that effective. Then again I found a guy's page online who seems to have liked the results of the stuff.

Does anyone have any expirence in this?

    Thank you.

Haven't used either of these personally but I have the Eastwood kit, I'll try to find something to polish.

I have the Eastwood kit. I have used it with a HF rotary. This product works well, but I must caution that you will need to keep the surface wet (use a spray bottle) and properly prepare the solution. (i.e. soak the pad in 1"water for 5 minutes).

FYI, a windscreen specialist warned me that polishing the windscreen (as in full on, abrasive polshing to REMOVE scratches) can cause optical distortions. (their core business is selling windscreens, though, so take the warning for what it's worth).

Over at auto detail solutions, they have 2 glass polishing kits. I tried one. My object was 2 glass table tops in our house. You use a drill with them. The table tops came out 95% better. Made the wife very happy. You should try them.
