Re: how long do you leave your wax on for

I usually leave it on about 10-15 minutes then I do the swipe test. If it looks good I'll go ahead and take it off if not I wait another 10 minutes and try again.

Re: how long do you leave your wax on for

I wax the whole vehicle before wiping it off, usually.
By then, where I started is dry enough to wipe off.
      (I do swipe test first)

I usually leave mine on for about 10 minutes, down here in south florida that's plenty of time for it to dry on there good. I do the swipe test in a few spots, and if everything seems fine, I wipe it off.

I will leave it on for about 10-15 minutes also. It really depends on temperature and humidity. I rely heavily on

                Yes there is...

Leaving a product on too long before wiping it off can lead to streaking. Hence the best thing to do use the Swipe Test that Andy linked as that will take the guess work out of it.

Re: how long do you leave your wax on for

I wax the entire vehicle before removing any of the wax. Depending on what else I'm doing that means I leave the wax on for anywhere from 15 minutes to 2 hours.

Once when using M16 I noticed a spot where I had missed removing it some 24 hours after applying it. It came off easily but it was a really, really thin application. As it should be!

I usually wait about 20 minutes. Do the swipe test and then if dry, remove the wax.

For me I usually do the entire car, then maybe wait 5 minutes and start removing it, starting with the section I applied first. It only takes me about 15-20 min to apply my LSP to the entire car, so on average I end up removing it within 20-25 minutes. Occasionally I might wait an extra 10-15 minutes on top of that, but for the most part I like to get it done quickly and lessen the chance of any dust settling on the LSP before removing it.

                          Hi Mike,

                          Just to chime in....

About 5 years ago, I had a conversation with a Meguiar's chemist who told me very 'directly', they, (Meg's chemists), suggested the 15 minute wait for NXT Tech Wax etc (as indicated in the product directions) before wipe off.

They found that 15 min was required to obtain the best performance from the product. He also said that leaving it on too long, could lead to streaking and other issues. At the time, I was suggesting 20-25 minutes, and the chemist wanted to make sure that I was aware that time was incorrect. Hence, shortly afterwards, we on MOL began recommending the Swipe Test as this helps to remove some of the variables.

Therefore, to obtain the best results from a Meguiar's product as it was intended to provide, everyone needs to follow the directions indicated on the product. That does not mean that it will not work well, if the time was extended etc... It just means that for Meguiar's to guarantee the product will do as intended, the directions need to be followed.

Tim, I fully understand and agree with you and Meguiar's on this. I was just relating my own experiences, especially with regard to the M16 removal 24 hours after I missed a spot the first time around!!!

It should also be noted that trying to remove a wax too soon, ie before it fully hazes, can often make it difficult to remove and also streak. The swipe test is the key because the actual time to dry/haze will vary a bit with temp and humidity fluctuations.

You missed a spot of #16 without removing it for 24h hours?? You have my sympathy! LOL!

As for the Swipe Test, that is why we started recommending it, as like I said, to remove some variables: Temp, humidity etc...

Great work Mike! You have come a long way in a short time!!
