Re: Learning to use the Rotary Buffer

What speed you run depends on what you're trying to accomplish and what pads you're using. With M83 you're most likely at the polishing stage, maybe still cleaning up some holograms instilled with a wool pad and a compound, so you might be running a W8006 foam polishing pad at 1500~1800rpm. But with M80 you're likely getting more into your finishing step so a W9006 foam finishing pad spinning more like 900~1200rpm would be in order.

Much will depend on how the paint is responding, what sort of defects you're trying to remove, etc.

Thanks...that helps alot! So basically.....when removing swirls etc. and polishing with #80 use the higher speeds?? Is that right? And....the lower speeds when finishing with a finer W9006 pad?

Just trying to understand when to use the different speeds.

      Thanks
      Have a great day!!

Re: Learning to use the Rotary Buffer

When removing defects, whether that's swirls and scratches in the paint or bad holograms from using a wool pad and an aggressive compound, you may need the slightly higher speeds.

The lower speed, and finer cleaner (M80 being the less aggressive between it and M83) are used to sort of fine tune and finesse the finish. Some refer to this as "jeweling" the finish - something that M205 does beautifully!

Great info! And I'm really tempted to look at the missing link photos.
